In the wake of the recent judgement and Nicola Sturgeon's determined response, if Westminster conceded to her wish for another referendum but threw the question out to the whole country, how would you vote? For Scottish independence - or against?

I would vote against (it would be a big upheaval) but only if it would stop that awful woman keep banging on about it!
I'd vote for Scotland to remain (pushing aside my desire to watch Ms Sturgeon realise exactly what she'd been campaigning for) as we're better together.
against but not because I am really against, I just don't want the agro with borders etc. NI was bad enough can you imagine the problems with a Scotland England border?
Against. No good for a family (of nations in this case) to break up or split off.

My initial reaction is 'Let them get on with it', but I think that results from my patience being tried to its limits by Nicola and her collection of empty cans (see TTT's list of unanswered questions) making the most noise. In reality I know the Scots of my acquaintance would be devastated by a 'Leave' vote - as inevitably would Scotland.
I'd love to as Nicola how far down the line she is in making contingency plans to deal with the things which aren't currently devolved and are still controlled by Westminster.

These are:
foreign affairs and international trade
the fiscal, economic, and monetary system
most taxes
most social security benefits
tax credits and child benefit
the minimum wage
financial regulation
immigration
trade and industry, including company law, competition, and consumer protection
cyber security
key aspects of transport
employment legislation and industrial relations law
broadcasting and media regulation
telecommunications regulation
as = ask of course
Funny how diehard Brexiteers become Remoaners when it comes to the UK.

Shows what hypocrisy exists.

Just wait until Wales seeks away.

And then England into earlier tribal Areas. Ho ho ho.

Funny how apples don't look (or taste) like oranges too isn't it!
For, sick of the whining, let them get on with it - but no coming back.
//Just wait until Wales seeks away.//

And just how would they survive then? Join the EU? I dont think so.
No. Once it all goes horribly wrong for Scotland (as it would) we know who they would blame.
TTT ......Couldn't wait for a referendum to vote for Brexit But does not want the Scots to have a referendum .
If they want out, let them vote for it. But a secondary vote must be the final time. The result sticks and if they don't like it, tough.

Err, they have had one!

There's the rub Mozz - they don't want it to "stick". They want it to be advisory so they can go on beating the UK gov with it to screw more moolah for Scotland.

Canary, //Funny how diehard Brexiteers become Remoaners when it comes to the UK. //

You're confused again. This question is hypothetical. If and when another referendum happens, Scotland alone will decide. They'll be the remainers and leavers - not the rest of us.
if they put the question to the whole country it would make far more sense to ask something like "do you wish for the union to be dissolved"... i wish for the union to remain together if possible but i suspect i would be on the losing side as nobody seems to care about it now

i would feel a bit uncomfortable voting directly on scotland's independence as i am not scottish and I think it should be their decision
//I just don't want the agro with borders etc. NI was bad enough can you imagine the problems with a Scotland England border?//

Assuming that Scotland does not move seamlessly from dependence on the Union to dependence on the EU (which is most unlikely) I doubt there will be any border problems since both parties would want to continue trading on sensible terms. The problems will only come if and when Scotland gets its wish to join the EU. Then, of course, the EU will insist on border checks between England and Scotland (to prevent their Single Market being contaminated). Good luck to Scotland with that.

I doubt I would vote if such a referendum were held.
Against independence.
A union of nations will always be stronger than an individual country going it alone.
