Another Manifesto pledge broken by the Tories .
How many pensioners will vote Tory at the next G/E now that they have suspended the triple lock system on their state pensions. Typical Tory Trick The rich get rich and the pensioners get poorer.

Voting for the same Party regardless of how well they perform is just monumentally stupid. Even if you're a long-term Tory supporter, it should be obvious that you want a *competent* and capable Tory party. A good way to achieve that is to send them to opposition now and then, to make sure that they don't fall into complacency. As regards the triple lock, I'm...

"How many pensioners will vote Tory at the next G/E" - most of them.

Boris' fault

What I would like to say about Liz Truss is, unfortunately unprintable.
I think the Tories have said goodby to quite a few votes with this.
Don’t be silly, Gulliver. Do you really think there are no Conservative pensioners? It isn’t a trick. Pledges like that are all very well in normal circumstances but it isn’t realistic to raise pensions in line with inflation when inflation is rising sharply. I keep saying it - but I’ll say it again. Everything has to be paid for - but those who continually complain never seem to understand that.
Any sensible pensioner realises that pensions (and wages incidentally) cannot rise by the current high level of inflation. Some workers may go on strike to try to get that but I doubt they will succeed. Pensioners will tighten their belts.
"...it isn’t realistic to raise pensions in line with inflation when inflation is rising sharply."

Yeah, it's all your own fault for not being rich so stop moaning.

Christ.
I disagree with you, Douglas. I don’t think it’s the fault of the pensioners. How callous you are.
"Pledges like that are all very well in normal circumstances but it isn’t realistic to raise pensions in line with inflation when inflation is rising sharply."

Good point but not one that Truss agreed with a fortnight ago when she said she was, "committed" to the triple lock.
Don’t tell me, Corby. I know what she said.
"...it isn’t realistic to raise pensions in line with inflation when inflation is rising sharply."

In other words, they only promised to do it because they thought it would never happen; an empty promise. They upset pensioners at their peril.
We’ve had Covid and Ukraine since the last election, bhg, none of it anticipated. Best thing is probably to promise nothing. Then they can’t be wrong.
I'm a pensioner, I'm not upset. The triple lock was a come-on voting tactic - not a dyed in the wool never to be gone back on promise. Maybe some were fooled.
NAOMI, my post was not directed only at you.

Truss has committed to spending 3% of GDP on defence by 2030 but not 2.5% by 2026.

If she cannot even commit to a pledge made two week ago, what chance is there with a 2030 pledge?
