There are various lefty love ins below calling for a general election. Let me explain why you have zero chance. The current PM will not call one and even in the unlikely event she is deposed and we spend another 6 weeks electing a new one. The replacement one won't call one either. I hope that is clear.

Interesting thread, but the comment about the alternative to Tory gov. being much worse, is entirely correct. I have been voting since the days of the great “Wislon” . I once believed that a fairer distribution of wealth was a good thing, if not essential to our society. However, Harold’s successors convinced me otherwise, remember Healy going cap in hand to...

The current PM will not call one
yeah I had worked out if she did, it would be a slam-dunk for Suh Kier.

Do you have a link to this breaking News story?
Peter Tora will now tell you Labour’s not won an election since 1485 and even if they had a 60 point lead in the polls and the Tories only stood in half of them the Tories would still win ;-)

Truss has been elected by less than 0.2% of voters and only 57% of Conservative MPs. She’s not in a good position but as I said on another thread, nobody wants the job, so the backbenchers should be very wary about bringing about another leadership contest.
The OP didn't explain anything, he/she simply asserted that there wouldn't be an election, without making any justification for his/her view.
I love the way that the OP referred to "various lefty love ins below" when he/she was the OP and there were no posts below.
// Truss has been elected by less than 0.2% of voters //

that's a little inaccurate. Truss was elected by 35507 voters, that's 0.00053% of the electorate. in the UK, the electorate does not vote for the prime minister.
"in the UK, the electorate does not vote for the prime minister."

Why is this so difficult for some people to grasp?

Tora will be voting Labour in future anyway, as proportional representation is now in their manifesto, despite Sir Keef (non)Starter being against it.

Tora loves a bit of PR. I think.
"in the UK, the electorate does not vote for the prime minister."

Why is this so difficult for some people to grasp?

Conservative party members had the vote. They are members of the GP.

ZM: "Tora will be voting Labour in future anyway, as proportional representation is now in their manifesto, despite Sir Keef (non)Starter being against it. " - I won't be voting Labour ever and if the system is to be changed to PR then Labour will first have to win under the current system and that hasn't happened since 1974. Even if they do win, would a party change the system that got it into power?
Dunno, we live in strange times, Tora.
How many voted Brown in? I can't remember.
Ich @ 19.17,Can not stop laughing, you are spot on.
Shame the AB Bookie isn’t talking to me, I was gonna have £50 on the nose for Sir Beer to be the leader of the next government and the Tories out on their Aprils.

I’ll give it 3 days, then take the price with Paddypower.
Everyone’s a winner!

Spice: "How many voted Brown in? I can't remember. " - His constituency made him an MP and his party elected him as party leader as all parties do with all party leaders. Why is that so difficult to grasp?
