What a hopeless shower this Government is. Couldn't organise a Business Meeting in a Brewery.

Oh dear. That is a cruel trick.
They promised help in April and then slyly, quietly deferred that to September.
I keep hearing people say there will be riots in the streets. I am beginning to think so too.
As I read it, the Government has provided the money to local authorities but many of them (of all political shades) have been less than efficient in actually getting it to where it's meant to go.
Buenchico is correct. It is the councils who are not paying out the money in April. Any excuse to knock this government, warranted or not.
got mine a couple of weeks ago direct to bank a/c.
The goverment are a shower.. but on this occasion canary ( and gromit) has got it wrong and will surely come back to own up to the error
some chance of that Bob,
There is always a danger that your promises will be broken when they rely (in part) on the actions of a third party, of whom you have little or no control.
Poor old Canary. He tries.
and loses
Consistently
Yep, didn’t read properly past the misleading headline. The chancellor hasn’t broken the pledge.
Canaries have saved many lives in days gone by.
Usually by passing away before the climate was too noxious for humans.
Relying on local councils to actually give money back? That's a laugh. The most corrupt inefficient, wasteful, self serving organisations ever to be in the business of providing a service. I loathe paying them every single penny

It's the councils all over the country who are breaking the pledge, probably the labour ones so their fan girls can whine about it on the net.
didn't know canary was a JRM fan.
funny how the lefty BBC go with the misleading headline.
That headline really is shameful.
For many years the BBC gave dispassionate and honest news throughout the world and, rightly so, were praised for it. Now, its news department with its anti government agenda, has become the audio equivalent of the tabloid papers. BBC, in my opinion no longer stands for British Broadcasting Corporation but Britains Biggest Conspirator. That headline is a blatant interpretation of the facts.
Perhaps the Government made the statement without checking it was possible for councils to achieve it?

It would appear to be easier for those paying by direct debit but what about those who don't?
Some councils have paid it so it is possible for them to do it.

You need to question the ones who are not paying it. I notice there is no breakdown of those that have and those that haven't.
