What has happened to it? These were year 6 pupils who will probably have the vote (in Scotland they would have anyway). Are schools not supposed to teach politics as part of the wider curriculum in eg Modern Studies?

The teacher was wrong, typical lefty.

Politics should certainly be taught in schools but, like religion, from a totally neutral viewpoint.
//No-one needs to fuel the endless and inaccurate fire that the media stoke up, that teachers are all Left-Wing mind-controllers polluting the brains of their pupils.//

The problem is, many are. Must be very frustrating to those that are not though.
‘There is no teaching of politics’.

Haaaa! It’s the way she tells them! :o)
YMF. Do you know many teachers? What evidence do you have that many of them are 'lefties'?
Naomi. Who is to decide what neutral politics is? I doubt if there'd be much of a consensus. AB for example has many people who denigrate those who don't share their political views; they call them 'lefties' or 5C's or 'fascists' and so on. 'Neutral' to them probably means something that accords with their own convictions. It's a difficult issue.
It’s not difficult at all. Schools may teach how the democratic process works, how elections work, how parliament works - and all of that can - and should - be taught from a neutral perspective.
If that was written by a ten year old I am a chinaman.
People aren’t neutral. At 11 many children have found their moral compass, and will be deciding who has the same opinions as themselves.
The teachers may be neutral be the pupils not necessarily the same. The pupil who wrote the letter has probably been influenced by his/her parents.
I just dont think most kids are influenced by their teachers
Most cant recall a damn thing 5 mins after the lesson ends

Funnily enough this came up in the late sixties - when there were subjects on the school curriculum like - Domestic Science and Civics oh Latin.... and there was a similar explosive deep state/ QA reaction to the idea of Politics being taught at secondary level. uni OK.
Explosive parental disapproval wivvart even waiting for what would be taught

1964 - we a had a mock election at school, conservatives won i think and the Headmaster was adamant that this wasnt the REAL election and we shouldnt think that this would be the Real result

Did my post on 'did you believe everything the teachers taught you?' survive the assassins stiletto ?
// At 11 many children have found their moral compass,//
yeah but no but
this isnt moral is it?
O I see - when you are prime minister, you should set an example and not "lie like a flat fish". That was RE - religious education and not lying learnt much earlier.

and no - did I see a flash of steel coming towards me? Macmillan according to Mrs RAB ( RAB Butler's wife) "was an inveterate liar and just couldnt tell the truth". Nixon wasnt exactly a vessel of truth.
Lyndon Johnson lifted his beagle up by the ears

O god try telling a Pole Churchill was a hero.... ( betrayal of Yalta)
Some have warned about our schools becoming brainwashing centres and propaganda klaxons for the marxists and extreme left. Predictably always shouted down and denied ... usually with an unsupported accusation of it being the immaginations of a fascist, or similar well worn slur. More detail here.

// Some have warned about our schools becoming brainwashing centres and propaganda klaxons for the marxists and extreme left.//

yeah but no but - they dont do they - they arent arent they
(indoctrinate them and turn out lifelong marxists)

both Dr Zhivago and All Quiet on the Western Front have scenes where the school master incites the class to ( fight the Bolsheviks / enlist) with disastrous results ( they all get killed) - but they are dramas not real life folks
Togo - were you indoctrinated
or did you - wise beyond your years - say - no no I will still vote.....(X)
Would people here be satisfied if the theory of Marxism were taught?
//Togo - were you indoctrinated//

Don't know ... if I was I wasn't as badly damaged as yourself . Obvs.

Your link at 18:47 the Daily Mail is not as certain as you.
Its story is peppered with ‘accused of’, ‘allegedly’ and ‘supposedly’.
"Peppered" ... haha are you ill? You missed the Presumably.
18.47? I can recommend peppered pig. Jolly nice.
I would have been delighted had one of my Year 6 pupils produced such a well constructed, carefully executed piece of work.

Well done that child!

YMB - // //No-one needs to fuel the endless and inaccurate fire that the media stoke up, that teachers are all Left-Wing mind-controllers polluting the brains of their pupils.//

This 'left wing teachers' garbage has been a media staple since the 1960's when teachers attended Ban The Bomb marches in the holidays.

It's been trotted out year in year out for so long, that successive generations honestly believe it as fact.

It was not fact then, it's not fact now, but the media love to poke a reliable and long-running bear.
