Some of the NSH staff were as fit as fleas.

It gets better.
I agree, Bertram...I did wonder about that too. He must be in a better position than many to hire someone to be with the child if he and his wife were too ill to care for him/her. No Nanny?
The cynic in me tells me there could have been a nanny who cleared off...perhaps?.... :-)
I do know I wouldn't have been putting my parents at risk.

It is a long way to drive when unwell, Zacs.....and expecting to become too unwell to look after a child. Even I know how suddenly this virus can develop from mild symptoms to dangerously ill.

Even Boris was, a few days earlier, advising that leaving children with grandparents was unwise.
Cummings at best made an error of judgement...at worst flouted the regulations which he was partially responsible for. Stupid or arrogant? I'd go with arrogant.
Me too.
This guy Dommy just likes to get out was he not one of the people who was in the fore front of pushing leave the European Union when it was plainly the wrong thing to do .
@11.17.I will try to remember Baders dictum the next time the police stop me for being drunk and drugged while driving my 4x4 through Aberdeen town centre.
I think that’s a separate issue, wee.
Concerns leave with out thinking it through both of them Zac
the democratic majority didn't agree with you weecalf.
//You're all assuming that his parents are vulnerable - but are they? How old are they - and what is their medical history? For all anyone here knows they might be relatively young and as fit as fleas.//

You're clutching at straws somewhat there Naomi. It stands to reason that the parents of a middle aged man are going to be closer than he is to the "at risk" age, as dictated by his party's government. It can't really be argued that he did wrong.

It has to be asked, would you (and others) have sprung to the defense of a "lefty" who had made the same journey? It's comparable to that Scottish medical adviser who ended up resigning after breaking lockdown advice.
Seems to be one rule in England and another in Scotland.

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer, Dr Catherine Calderwood, was forced to resign after flouting lockdown rules by visiting her holiday home with her family on the Fife coast.

I'll just leave this here.
*argued that he did no wrong.

Missed an important "no" there.
Haha we couldn't have timed our responses better had we tried Maggie.
Had he got no faith in social services, that's what normally follows if parents can't look after their kids. :O)))
// I didn't want to lower the tone on there // someone
well brighten up a bit then for chrissakes

this is AB not the encyclopaedia britannica ! I was gonna say Dougie since it was your fred that the posts would be slightly more er au point - and I had gone froo every post and I was better for it - - -

//It has to be asked, would you (and others) have sprung to the defense of a "lefty" who had made the same journey?//

I can't speak for anyone else but I'd have said the same whoever was involved. In the event of illness, my first concern would be to ensure that my children would be properly cared for. I wouldn't want to leave them to the care of social services.
Calderwood was just a small part of the Scottish government,Maggie. This guy Cummings is an integral part, and some would say de-facto Prime Minister of the whole UK.
Dom is the valve on a pressure cooker. Boris will cave in to any globalist crap.
If you think people will choose between immigrant loving, green Cons and Lab.
Think again.
‘ In the event of illness, my first concern would be to ensure that my children would be properly cared for’

Under normal circumstances, yes. But this is far from that and there was specific Govt advice in place about how to act in the circumstances of a pandemic. Which Cummins saw fit to completely ignore. You can’t argue his case past that, I’m afraid.
So who the heck is running this country then,Spicey. Both Cummings and Bojo are well out of their depths, both equally inept and incompetent. The British people deserve better.
