13 years old - isolated in hospital with no family or friends with him as he dies. How awful. Must have been terrifying for the youngster. Let's hope the boneheads who ignore the rules read about it and reconsider their ways.

I just saw this when reading the news. absolutely awful .
I know. It's heartbreaking, but I fear it will be one of many such stories before this is over.
Poor darling...
Awful.
RIP.
Poor little boy. I wonder if he had some undiagnosed condition?
Naomi, the report said he didn't. He just got it bad I guess. :-(
Heart breaking, but unfortunately we are all potential victims at the moment.
That is so sad, may he rest in peace.
Mozz, //They said he had no apparent underlying health conditions…. A spokesman for the trust said the boy's death had been referred to the coroner, but gave no further details.//
Yeah, there may be something undiagnosed.
I have no doubt the 'boneheads' are quite aware of how many are dying but are too ignorant to realise that we are all at risk. The trouble is, once it was known that most of the deaths were (originally) those of a certain age, those nowhere near said age believe themselves invincible.
ken, given AB's age profile, I suspect most members are at risk. Management should rent an aircraft hangar for us all to stay in.
If this child did indeed die because he contracted the virus it is entirely possible that he ignored the rules. All of us on this thread think about when you were a kid. You were invincible, immortal, nothing could go wrong; the world was yours to grab. "Stupid rules" were for "old folks" (usually anyone over 25, or even 20). However it is, obviously, sad and tragic that such a young child is dead.
I saw it on BBC news, it is sad when any child dies.

I also saw a photograph on FB showing a group of teens with their bikes. At that age I thought that I would live forever.
The trade off is how many young people will be alive at the end of this because they were not out doing stupid things, or on bikes, etc. More than any other group I suspect there will be an overall improvement in mortality rates
I am sure a member of staff would have been assigned to stay with him, even if it happens to adults, children in isolation would not die alone Not someone who he knew but someone to reassure and just be in that space. It might not be possible as the situation becomes worse though.
Ken - // I have no doubt the 'boneheads' are quite aware of how many are dying but are too ignorant to realise that we are all at risk. //

Sadly, a built-in side effect of being a 'bonehead' is the inability to think outside oneself, and the capacity to make a connection between death from a virus and ignoring the protocols designed to stop the spread of the virus, is simply beyond their comprehension.
