With the new £20 note being launched today, I wonder how often and why/where do people still use cash?

I use my contactless card for everything. Couple of tins of soup, anything. It's much quicker and my picket linings are lasting much longer.
pocket
You've got to picket pocket or two.
Exactly.
I almost always use cash. Window cleaner, hairdresser, taxis, restaurants, groceries, petrol. I only use my card online or if I’ve run out of cash.
I'm surprised how many have window cleaners.
And gardeners?
Cash for me especially down the old rub a dub. Easiest way to keep control, stops you going to the strip bars or casino after too.

I do use cards for larger purchases though but never contactless. Not secure enough yet for my liking.
I use a credit card to book flights etc and pay it ofv when the bill comes in,gif large items for the home I’d use a debit card, can’t remember the last time I used a cheque
TD. I have to have a window cleaner. I live right by the beach. It’s very wet and windy. I don’t fancy climbing up a ladder to clean them myself.
Fair enough clover that is fair enough
We always have some cash to hand. The other day a young friend transported some furniture to us in his van and we thanked him with cash. Would be difficult with a credit card. The dog groomer gets paid cash. Apart from that I can think of many occasions where cash comes in handy. Can you imagine giving a young child some pocket mone with a credit card?
Cheques are still around, in 2018 there were 400 million processed in the UK. To all those who only use credit cards, see how handy they are if anything goes wrong. A problem arose with a card I had and it took me twenty minutes to get past a computer and finally speak to a human, after five minutes I preferred dealing with the computer.
I use cash for parking and to buy newspapers. I send monetary gifts by cheque and pay my entry
fee for the Rainbow Charity Quiz by cheque. Rather that than send cash by post.
I use cash for my shopping, I pay bills online or by DD. I don't have a credit card. For my hairdresser I use my debit card.
"Surprisingly, the Severn Bridge toll was cash only."

That was true until the 1990s, when the Severn TAG prepayment system was introduced.

2010 saw a trial of Credit Card payments which became permanent (along with Debit Cards) in 2012.
Quite a few little shops take cash only.
I have got a window cleaner who also cleans my gutters and unblocks downpipes plus any other jobs which need a ladder. I am surprised that anybody would be surprised.
oh also I have got a go bag packed....change of clothes, basic meds, spare dog stuff, all the usuals...and a small stash of cash. I would imagine in circs like the welsh floods where power and the internet are lost then many shops and so on will lose the ability to take cards.
I pay most workpersons with cash unless they specifically request otherwise. I imagine they must like the feel of crisp polymer too. Apart from that, small purchases of bread or milk etc - but major shopping at the supermarket I pay for with a card.
