I wonder how anyone knew this wasn’t lobster.

I suppose some people who really like and eat a lot of lobster might be able to tell but (I assume) trading standards must have found out somehow!!

I'd know...its like the difference between a piece of chicken breast and the chopped and shaped stuff.
Found out by tests, probably. They tend to do it covertly.
I'd know the difference as well.

I wouldn’t. But then again I don’t much like seafood.

But what would prompt trading standards to check?
Trading Standards officers are always checking something or other, so this 'inaccuracy' was probably found via a regular check.
a bit like the difference between beef and donkey

lobster = money +++ and so there is a temptation to sub washed white fish = crab fingers for the lobster

a teacher wrote up to the papers about well educatede children twenty y ago - asked what colour is a lobster
the child asked - thermidor or mornay?
A trading standards employee eating there.

A disgruntled employee

A sacked ex employee

A suspicious customer

Maybe?
I thought Trading Standards did random tests of all sorts of things just to make sure companies behaved themselves.
I would know.
Flavour, and visual. White fish doesn't much taste like lobster.
I would know. I love lobster, I also eat a lot of white fish.
There is a striking difference to my palette.
I'd know the difference, Lobster has a specific flavour and texture.
the package they used is pretty open about the ingredients, 35% lobster. So they just needed to be creative on the menu, so if they'd have called it something like Lobster and seafood with king prawns, they'd have been ok.
yup, just stupid...and then to try and excuse themselves by saying that's the dish they make the least profit on....
