//He has a fairly safe seat, so I'm sure he'll still be your local MP on 13th December. Unfortunately. //

er, no he doesn't. it would only take a 5% swing to unseat him.
It broke down for Brexit due to the system needing fixing. Public's view was not represented by those elected to do so. And we even had folk here saying it was right that the public's view was ignored, because they reckon democracy is only for the elected elites. This hardly negates the need for public view representation in a democracy.

Remind me, how were you going to fix that having identified the issue ?
Given zero flaws in my explanation of democracy, what are you under the delusion that you've pointed out ? Save the ability to make strange posts ?
You point out that democracy works by having elected representatives implement your political ‘wishes’. I asked you how that worked / is working for the brexit process. The answer is, it hasn’t.
Which is hardly a flaw in democracy, but in the present system that doesn't delivery democracy to the people.
"Our" political wishes BTW
//The answer is, it hasn’t. //

Had democracy been implemented it would have - but it hasn't. Another silly answer.
In my opinion its time we moved on from the Lords, you are there because you were born well, did a politician a favour or are a member of the church. Unelected, essentially unaccountable and many beyond retirement age. Shutting it down would save a fortune I think even with the related tourism hit.
The public view was contradictory.

In 2016 it voted to leave the EU.
In 2017 it elected a majority of remain MPs.

‘Which is hardly a flaw in democracy, but in the present system that doesn't delivery democracy to the people’

Eh? Have you actually read that cobblers back to yourself?

The ‘system’ is democracy democracy is the ‘system’ ergo....it’s not working!
yes I agree abolish the old g1ts and replace with an elected upper house of no more than 100. Halve the number of MPs, abolish all councils and form management groups to empty the bins.
Regardless of the personal convictions of elected members of parliament, if democracy was to prevail, as it should in any modern society, it was incumbent upon them to respect democracy and to implement it. They didn’t.
Exactly! So it’s not working!
//In 2017 it elected a majority of remain MPs. //

yes but both party leaderships pledged in their manifestos to respect the result of the 2016 vote, so how could they know they were being lied to?
Previous experience?
What previous experience?
The expenses scandal. The attempted illegal attempt to implement A50 under prerogative powers. To name but two
No that doesn't work. Neither were left unaddressed. Brexit in all its undemocratic shame is being deliberately manufactured and is deliberately unopposed. A clear case of democracy being blatantly trashed. No ifs, no buts.
It's a pity Farage will never wield any real power under our present, totally corrupt political system. He talks a lot of sense.
Neither were left unaddressed I agree but they happened and they demonstrate that the people we voted in don’t always act as we would wish. The fact that parliament have blocked various deals despite the country voting for Brexit demonstrates that democracy isn’t working.
