// A pastime is something many people will partake in.//

Yes. Exactly . Many people go to Scotland to shoot as a pastime. They shoot deer. I shoot paper targets. That's my pastime along with many other members of my shooting club.
A couple of members actually shoot Muntjac on an English estate.
Indeed. A muzzleloader, apparently.
Crikey. It was Davy Crocket.
I owe you an apology NJ. I didn’t observe your wee smiley face with the comment you made .
DC only shot 'coons.
// Master

The gun he was using was only licensed to shoot between specific dates, Oct. 19-27. This would possibly suggest sport rather than food hunting, to me. //

That's the deer season dates.

Hunting is seen as a sport in the US. Trophy hunting is a different thing.
Hunting is commonplace in Canada. A Canadian friend of mine is Native American descent. Due to her heritage she is automatically granted permission to hunt with a bow and arrows two weeks before the hunting season begins. Oddly enough she has never taken advantage of her good fortune. :o)

Well it's apparent we don't know the full facts of whether this was a case of hunting for food or trophy hunting but I just put the question of trophy hunting out there for for opinions.

If it was hunting for food then I guess you have to do what you have to do to survive. If it was the case that there are too many animals around that part of the world which need to be controlled because they are infringing on the human population then I would be on the side of the animal. Humans can control their population and movement using their common sense - animals can't.

(And yes, I am vegan)
Pasta, I was going from a Washington Post article
Trophy hunting is sickening.... as are trophy hunters. Absolute scum.
Deer aren't culled because they infringe on the human population.
It's done for humanitarian reasons.
Zacs...I guess the WP didn't research when deer season is ;)
Well, I guess if they didn't, it gives me an excuse ;-)
Lots of info on deer hunting, regulations, etc in Arkansas here...

no can of worms, this was justice in all it's forms.
In some parts of the UK deer populations have rocketed. As we have no predators (wolves) to keep the population in check and healthy, other means have to be used.
Deer stalking brings in a lot of money for local economies and the kill is usually instantaneous. The kill is eaten as well.
Trophy hunters are the scum of the earth!
Many in the US stock their freezers for the winter via legal hunting. If that's what this man was doing...how is his death justice?
Exactly pasta.
You’re right there, melv. I live in a town sandwiched between two densely populated cities and muntjack deer have recently moved in to the area
