Is this an extension of Finn's Law or just dogma?
I read today that the tinpot vassal state and it’s pipsqueak president contribute zilch to the EU coffers. They are not alone apparently. Is that true and how does that work?
If true it’s no longer they are rattled about losing their 3rd largest milch cow.
spicey; That's brilliant!
No reply to the Switzerland point then, K?
RETRO, which tinpot vassal state do you mean?
jim; //No reply to the Switzerland point then, K?//

Your mention of Schwengen is irrelevant, neither the UK nor the Irish Republic is part of it so nothing will change there. As to the customs Union, if a deal was set between the EU and Switzerland, why is there such a problem between the EU & UK?
Schengen clearly *is* relevant because it sets the scene for why Switzerland has such a border. The Irish situation meanwhile it complicated by, for example, the Good Friday Agreement and the Common Travel area, both of which are UK-Ireland arrangements that nevertheless *will* be compromised if a solution isn't found. All parties agree on this fact.

I don't dispute that a deal between the EU and UK can be found that avoids all these problems. The problem is that the UK specifically wants to leave the Customs Union and the Single Market -- as well as take back control of its borders. All of these positions are fundamentally incompatible with an open border on Ireland.
We shall see.
The Irish backstop issue is sorted is it? Must have missed that.

Ah, ZM me old china, where've you been? It's the presidents of France and Finland that said we have 12 days, perhaps they have solved the backstop issue.
I'm sure we'd have heard if they had.

Apologies for late reply.
Just seen your earlier question.
The tinpot country to which I was referring was Luxembourg.
It's not at all clear what Mr Rinne (of whom I'd never heard until today) means when he says "it's all over".
Consider these points.
“In an attempt to begin bridging differences between the two sides, three papers were sent to the European Commission outlining Britain’s draft plans to avoid a hard border in Northern Ireland. The first outlined Downing Street’s offer to create a single all-Ireland food and agricultural zone with checks on produce at ports on the Irish Sea. In the second plans were outlined for a surveillance system to prevent goods entering EU markets that did not comply with European standards. The final paper gave British proposals for “alternative arrangements” for customs checks away from the Irish border, which have long been proposed by the prime minister. This would require that the EU accept a customs tariff border between the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland but without any physical infrastructure on the actual border.”

“There are growing signs that the details of a deal could be hammered out when the Prime Minister meets EU leaders at the UN General Assembly in New York next week, which will be attended by Arlene Foster, the DUP leader. Leo Varadkar, the Irish Taoiseach, said he would be meeting Mr Johnson in New York “to try to get a deal”,

But before that "opposition MPs are to meet with Barmier before the official Brexit secretary does......why?

That is why Boris insisted on the return of all "papers" presented at the meetings this week. Counted them out and counted them back in before coming home. It wasn't a worry about details being "leaked" to Brussels "correspondents" at all it was the knowledge that the details would be handed to the Remainiac traitors.
//There are growing signs that the details of a deal could be hammered out when the Prime Minister meets EU leaders at the UN General Assembly in New York next week, which will be attended by Arlene Foster, the DUP leader. Leo Varadkar, the Irish Taoiseach, said he would be meeting Mr Johnson in New York “to try to get a deal”,//

That just leaves about 560 other pages of the deal for which to find a satisfactory solution (for the UK). There is a grave danger that the remainder of the disastrous "deal" is lost in the noise of he Backstop.
Message read and understood Judge. I have a feeling that Boris has a team of advisers who are on the case. I have not yet resigned myself to continuing fighting against the evil empire even when the current dust settles but, like millions more, will gird my loins and go again if we are manacled to the EUSSR with honeyed words that are a disguise for poison. We will make the pyramid scheme collapse from within if needs be just like Samson at the temple of Dagon.
