he's not around to defend himself. but even if he was, we're talking about different times, practically a lifetime ago, in a very different world to that being lived now. it's never a good idea to assess the past using today's values - the people living then would not (for instance) be able to imagine #metoo...….

I can am sure you that yesterdays values never accepted such goings on, more likely to happen with today's values.

Yes, but that was America, but not in yesterday's England.

this was the central difficulty about the Saville allegations - he wasnt there to defend himself and it was all a bit er one sided
