Isn't he the man for the job? a leading article in today's Telegraph suggests so, he left the government over Chequers showing resolve, his best qualities are charisma, clarity of philosophy and willingness to take risks. He is, like his hero Churchill, a singular man waiting to be called. Such politicians are often disliked for long periods of time, until their colleagues suddenly realise they were right all along and that, even if they are not necessarily wanted, they are needed. This feels more and more like the hour of Boris Johnson.
Do you agree?
"Climate Change is going to do major damage to this Earth and this is proven by science. Michael Gove however, refused to declare a climate emergency in the UK. Dispite Michael‘s refusal, the government passed the motion and there is now a climate emergency in the UK, so the whole House of Commons is more environmental that the Environment Secretary."
"Environment Secretary Michael Gove acknowledged there was a climate "emergency" but did not back Labour's demands to declare one."
"The declaration of an emergency was one of the key demands put to the government by environmental activist group Extinction Rebellion, in a series of protests over recent weeks."
Crikey, I had no idea Leonardo DiCaprio had warned us about a knackered planet if we don't change our ways...has anyone got any ideas on a planet-saving breakfast, I've gone off my bacon buttie now :0(
There is a difference between acknowledging that there is a climate change emergency (and I’m glad you’ve acknowledged that Mr Gove is no denier) and “declaring an energency” which strikes me as gesturing rather.
Wwhat sort of carbon footprint do you think De'Caprio has left as a legacy for his Grandchildren? Unless he paddles a canoe around the world to visit his many Film locations I would suggest quite a large one.
I don't see why that takes away his efforts to make a better tomorrow retro and the fact you're trying to discredit him for hit is rather immature. We all have a carbon footprint i'm sure some have a bigger one than Leo.
//and the fact you're trying to discredit him for hit is rather immature. //
Am not doing that at all.You introduced him to a thread about Boris Johnson???I am suggesting that it would make more sense for someone more credible to attempt to preach the gospel other than the Emmas and Leonardos and other show bizz luvvies who have left bigger carbon footprints than a Hydrebad coal fired power station. Hypocrisy is the word for it.
It's not hypocrisy when you donate over 100 million dollars to climate change charities.
As I said, they are doing the best they can with the platform and opportunity they have. Why focus on dicaprio when it was an example of someone tryin to do good, then David attenbourgh has sparked the mass wave of atavists, and the scientists have used their knowledge to prove the issues with climate change?
You chose to focus on Leo, he was in a cluster of people mentioned.
"other than the Emmas and Leonardos and other show bizz luvvies"
Why would people listen to a scientist they've never seen before who they also have no idea who they are? They won't. People follow those in the light. If those in the light are seen being climate atavists, what's the issue? It has more impact than getting caroline lukas to say something, people will just laugh it off and discredit everything she says. Do that with leo's power, just try.
