Great in principal but just wait and see the furore and riots should one or two of these ‘ good boys really’ get plastered over the highway. When a scumbag is taken out lawfully with an authorised firearm remember the riots that followed by the grieving brotherhood? :-(

We do Melv.
If any of the bleeding heart liberal namby pamby wishy washy intelligentsia feel otherwise, I suspect it's because they've never been a victim of this pernicious crime wave.
Dave, God you are so dramatic .
I don't think it's untoward to query what could happen and how much it may cost us collectively in the long run, hopefully this will also have a deterrent effect too.
sandy: "Some of these thieves might suffer life changing injuries as a result of these crashes." - don't do the crime and they are safe.
"When, and if, that does happen will voices be raised to complain that the punishment doesn't fit the crime? " - again stop doing the crime.
It's no different to what they do with cars it's just that scooter riders are a bit more vulnerable.
The plyers of this fithy 'trade' have injured scores of innocent people - many quite seriously - as bags are ripped from shoulders and arms broken. I weep absolutely ***-all tears at the thought of a few of the perpetrators spending a few years in permanent pain.
Shame they haven’t got an electrified extending lance that portrudes from the bonnet, hopefully that’s in the pipeline!

Very well done the Met, time these vermin were tackled head on with some instant justice. Be a shame too if some suffered injuries that prevented them from ever riding again.....
Retrocop has mentioned something that has always puzzled me, how they're always "nice boys really" or words to that effect. The p.ikey (apparently that word is racist even though 'travellers' are as white as I am) who was killed in SE London earlier this year in the furtherance of robbing an old man, by all accounts, according to the other p.ikeys, was a lovely bloke, even though the very fact he was robbing an old man absolutely confirms he was a scumbag of the highest order - and I'm glad (yes, glad) he's dead.

The footage in the link has left me with a warm glow.

I live in a black and white world, and therefore I strongly believe if people are injured or killed whilst committing a crime, well boo hoo, what a shame, never mind - because if they weren't stepping outside of the rules of society, they wouldn't be injured or killed. If they choose do, F.*** 'em. Who cares.
And when they get knocked off their bikes, the copper should give them a good kicking.

"Oh THOSE bruises? Must have got them when he fell off his bike!"
If they get injured so what, if their moped gets damaged so what. Their scum and as gness said earlier the thieving scum should do a risk assessment first.

I wonder if these low life scumbags would be able to make a insurance claim for the damage caused to their mopeds ?.
Tony, I think their mopeds would be the least of their concerns as opposed to the life ?( No I am not excusing this behaviour ) .
Could be worse though, anne. I'd bet that in the USA a cop would knock them off their moped and then shoot them.
Deskdiary, 20.16 spot on.
Hopefully this will go some way to stop the scumbags.
They've got away with this, far too long. I hope the police don't get injured..
And the courts? A joke!
Great news.
That wee 31 second clip has lifted my spirits a bit. :-)
Worrying about insurance won't be a consideration. Most of the mopeds used for these crimes have been stolen from pizza delivery drivers.
The thieves would throw acid at the drivers to ensure the theft went unopposed.
Just watching the recurring report again on BBC News.
Typical BBC, warning us that we may find some of the images disturbing....

On the contrary it was marvellous viewing, more of the same please!
