Great in principal but just wait and see the furore and riots should one or two of these ‘ good boys really’ get plastered over the highway. When a scumbag is taken out lawfully with an authorised firearm remember the riots that followed by the grieving brotherhood? :-(

yep saw that earlier, great news.
A practicality occurs to me here. If the collision results in damage to a moped (as would seem to be highly likely) are the police liable for the cost of the repair when it's returned to its owner?
would make a great teevee series....

I suppose they will think again if they know that in getting ccaught they will also get road burn ....
no more than any damage they cause to a car failing to stop chico.
Whilst I am not a great lover of the police this news made me smile and think...woooHoo jolly good! I believe that these young nasties think that the police can't nudge them off their (stolen?) bikes if they are not wearing helmets ....but they are allowed to. Bst thing I have heard for a while....now we just have to find some police people somewhere. Very few where I live!
is there much moped crime where u live though?
Was this tactic not "allowed" before ?
// If the collision results in damage to a moped (as would seem to be highly likely)// I wondered that

it would certainly be an insured-for event,
and I wonder .... if the police and insurance co.s have come to an understanding - that is repair is cheaper than replacement

Thats great news, its time we toughened up on these scum who think they can control our streets.

Our laws are far too soft.
This is getting ridiculous now, Baldric...but I agree with you.... :-)
It is absolutely absurd that the police are allowed to deliberately knock down a moped rider - whatever they may or may not have done.
Some of these thieves might suffer life changing injuries as a result of these crashes.
When, and if, that does happen will voices be raised to complain that the punishment doesn't fit the crime?
What if somebody dies?
Who cares Sandy...not me

Knock them diddlydown.

There is little or no respect for the police now.
Many of the people that they do manage to arrest are given ridiculously lenient punishment when they get to court.
I am all for putting this control into the hands of the police.
Injured moped riders.....Oh dear, never mind.

If they don’t commit the crime in the first place, Tilly they won’t die. They need to do a risk assessment first and take note. X
The Police will be filming everything - and will be quite certain to have made a legal request for the moped driver to stop.

If that's ignored, then they take the consequences - and if the little scumbags get hurt, then so much the better.
If a rider gets badly injured or paralyzed, who picks up the bill for their care?
Operation Venice has already made an impact since it was launched (as the link says) properly trained officers using hopefully good judgement will see more reduction.
