//The inexhaustible need for the oxygen of publicity\\.

Well some on here are fuelling that oxygen. Carry on, a-h et al. The only person to come out of this smelling of roses is Tommy. Is that what you want?
Tall question, difficult or demanding as in a tall order...
... or tall story?

/// My son works for a Government department. You are not allowed to post political opinions on social media. ///

I find that very hard to believe, do all Government workers have to support the government in power so they are not allowed to voice opposing party's views?
// do all Government workers have to support the government in power //

Not at all but when you work for certain departments you keep quiet.
Is that your definition or do you have a link, TCL?

I have never heard of a tall question.
Has it crossed anyone's mind that quite a proportion of the 'man in the street' may have quite a deal of sympathy with Tommy Robinson's viewpoint, especially those in HM Armed Forces who tend to be particularly in favour of standing up for the UK Establishment. I grew up with forces family, work with them now - sorry to disappoint but the majority are not the pink softies some of you think they should be, far from it.

Superb answer.
AOG - // I find that very hard to believe, do all Government workers have to support the government in power so they are not allowed to voice opposing party's views? //

I would suggest that any political views are the right of the individual, which is only right and proper in a free society.

However, using government media outlets or software to voice political opinions is not allowed, for obvious reasons.

You make it sound like repression, when clearly it is simply a matter of common sense.

Yes - but that does not allow soldiers to be seen to be endorsing a right-wing extremist on social media.
AOG - I don't know, I only know about the department he works in. I would assume most department are the same.

Also presume that the higher up you are the more you get away with.

I have no used "Tall question" as an expression but since a tall order is one that's demanding or difficult, it's easy to see why it could be applied to a question.
Jackdaw - // Well some on here are fuelling that oxygen. Carry on, a-h et al. The only person to come out of this smelling of roses is Tommy. Is that what you want? //

I'm not sure that 'Tommy Robinson' could ever come out of anything smelling of roses!!

That said, he has his publicity, which is what he wanted - and if as a downside of debating this issue, we add to that, then I can live with it.

Exactly Corby - thank you.

It gets more and more stupid. It was a piccy For Funks Sake, get over it. Not a subversive attempt to overthrow the govt.
ummmm - // Also presume that the higher up you are the more you get away with. //

I would assume the exact opposite, the higher you are, the greater your responsibilities, and accountability - they go with the rank and salary of being higher than the rest.

That is why the officer in charge of this group of soldiers is going to be the one held to account.
One hundred, lol.

I shall now leave this to "last word Andy"
