Lol!,
Blink and you'll miss the latest UKIP story.
Personally I think it's the Communist BBC and it's dirty tricks department. If a man suffering a bit of stress cannot indulge in a little racism, homophobia and oh look even class snobbery of the er metropolitan elite variety then what on earth is the world coming to
Getting rid of them quicker than they can find them.
Story first broke around 6 a.m. then disappeared for a while, he hadn't resigned at that point though.
No loss and thankfully these idiots are being weeded out from UKIP at the slightest hint of impropriety.
One question I do have though is how the Mail on Sunday came by the audio and was he made aware he was being recorded during a phone call, as I believe you're obliged to do by law?

I think it's legal if one of the people taking part in the conversation is aware it is being recorded.

In fairness, ichkeria... I myself have been known to be a bit grumpy when on the medication. Under the influence I told the neighbour's dog to *** off out of my garden once.

That's it though isn't it? I wouldn't condone anything he said(under the influence of medication or not), far from it, I just genuinely am curious as to the circumstances of the conversation and how the MoS came by it.
Reminds me a little of this illustrious gentleman who was once responsible for the Policing in my area:

If he said that in a meeting with his own colleagues one wonders what he might have said out of earshot and in private.

That's OK, I rate Farage above snobs like Thornberry.
I roared with laughter quite honestly

agree - losing them faster than they can find them
Just heard this described on the Today Program as a slow-motion car crash for UKIP, and its difficult to disagree. All Parties have problems from time to time with idiot Members and candidates, so this is not an exclusive UKIP difficulty.

But its the way that a political Party deals with the fallout that is significant, and Farage is running around like a headless chicken, trying to cope with his continuing difficulties over the choice of candidates. Its a damage limitation exercise, and while he is having to deal with it, he can't get back to campaigning for the next Election, which is now only a few months away.
i wouldnt worry about it, teething problems . ukip will and can only get stronger. 15 years ago sinn fein ( ira ) scum had a small party, today they have the largest party in south ireland and second largest in northern ireland .
Just seen this on the BBC News website ::

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-30470638

O'Flynn was desperately trying to defend Kerry Smith in particular, and UKIP in general, against a pretty devastating onslaught from Andrew Neil, but failing to make much headway at all.

While UKIP show so little common sense when it comes to choosing its candidates, is it any wonder that, to use O'Flynn's phrase, "the hand grenades are rolling down the corridors" ?

The UKIP circus is still in town and is showing no signs of wanting to leave.
The is more amusement to come I fear.
This wasn't just some minor party bod.
Wasn't he selected to stand in one of UKIP's prime target seats?

Sinn Fein btw are indeed the second largest party in N Ireland but they have some way to go to achieve even that status in the republic, which is simply not their province (so to speak) to the same extent.
Interesting comparison, though. Not sure the comparison with UKIP is valid (apart from a certain rabid nationalism). Sinn Fein always had the potential support, it was just that many people who would have voted for them abstained and now paradoxically they attract more votes since the IRA ceasefire
I agree ichkeria. Sinn Fein is entirely a red herring in this discussion.

I have just heard an interview with a high-ranking UKIP person by John Humphrys. Again, it was said that UKIP was a young party, who were still sorting themselves out.

But that really isn't true is it ? UKIP was formed in 1993. They have 24 MEPs, and now have 2 MPs. They are not some kind of tyro college debating society...they say that they want to be taken seriously as a proper political Party. But they show scant ability to be able to behave in a serious, adult way. David Soutter, who is in charge of recruiting for UKIP, said that half his time is taken up with "weeding out lunatics".....his words not mine.

But it seems to me that his efforts don't seem to be very effective, if idiots like Smith can get to the stage of being selected to stand in the South Basildon and East Thurrock constituency. We should remember that Neil Hamilton the previous candidate for this seat, until only a few days ago, was also allowed to stand, somebody that any other political party wouldn't touch with a very long barge pole.

UKIP a serious Party ? They have a long way to go before they can really claim that sobriquet. But in the mean time, we should be grateful for their considerable comedic value I suppose. Its like one of those old Benny Hill sketches, where they were filmed running around at double speed. Or maybe the Keystone Cops.
What people should be concerned about, is not just a few words deemed offensive by some, but the fact that phone calls are being recorded, wasn't the News of the World brought down for this kind of thing.

/// In a recording obtained by the Mail On Sunday, Mr Smith made offensive remarks about gay people, other UKIP members and Chigwell in Essex. ///

It would seem that while busying themselves over this latest indiscretion by a member of UKIP, they have failed to have a more serious stab at their hobby horse the Daily Mail.

Mind you it must have been a very difficult decision for them to make, condemn the Daily Mail for obtaining recordings of private phone calls or grabbing the latest chance to have a go at UKIP.

Only 21 years seems pretty young to me.

no you have to keep your eye on the ball, AOG
This has been covered before. Recording is lawful if one side knows it is being done ( one-sided } not both sides.

News of the screws, they were accessing recordings which actually both sides knew were being recorded -and were charged under other legislaton

goodness what a shock I first read this as 1933 !
