Anelka is a converted muslim, and he quite blatantly made an anti-semetic gesture

seems pretty clear...but you lot carry on distorting the obvious
we know now he is a convert, if it's proven to be a racist gesture by footballs governing body then he should get at least 10 match bans,
and i am pretty sure most people are aware racism, sexism and any ism you like isn't specific to white people.

Apparently this Greek footballer received a five-match ban and a 1,000-euro fine.

Although this Guardian headline said different, yet some regularly criticise the Daily Mail for such false reporting.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/mar/17/greek-football-lifetime-ban-nazi-salute
but if it was the other way round ie a white person you can guarantee theyd be pulling out all the stops to prove it was meant as racist.

you gotta love the racism industry

Gromit

/// In this case however, it would seem the footballer is not being racist or anti semitic, but rather making a stand for free speech. ///

Oh that's what it is, is it?

I wonder how many have been convicted for just speaking out?

But apart from the matter of free speech, why is it when such players as John Terry are involved in such matters you are very quick to criticise then?

Does that Make Obama a racist then, seeing as he features in one of the photo's
Question Author
/// Why hasn't Anelka said it was 'a stand for free speech' ? ///

Because Gromit makes it up as he goes along, didn't you realise that?
// French authorities have said the gesture is too vague to take any action against Dieudonné.

La Quenelle

La Quenelle invented by Dieudonné is both a gesture comprised by a downward straight arm touched at the shoulder by the opposite hand and an accompanying song. Some commentators have stated that La Quenelle has become viral, with many individuals posing while performing La Quenelle in photos posted to the internet. La Quenelle has been supposed to be a reverse nazi salute, a modern Nazi salute and a quasi-nazi salute by the Jewish authorities and Jewish well-known figures in France, which is denied by Dieudonné himself considering it as a protest of the present social system. //

If it is not an illegal gesture in France, and they cannot prosecute the comedian for it, it seems unlikely they could do anything about a footballer doing it.

AOG. The Greek footballer is quite clearly doing a proper Nazis slute and is quite different from this made up gesture.

Are you trying to get a 10 match ban for Obama now as well?

Extremely silly thread posted because the player is black and no other readon.
Maybe it was a completely silly youthful action?

not sure anyone could claim to be "youthful" at 34, particularly in football, where players reach the crest of the hill anytime after 25....
emmie > so you are Brain of Britain, sweeping statements like yours make me want to kick the cat, of course i wouldn't, i don't have one. <

and if you had one i would feel very sorry for the poor cat as there are plenty of nice slaves out there
the so called comedian has been in trouble with the French government any number of times, according to various sources, sites, over overt racist remarks on the Holocaust.
DF, as i said i wouldn't, in fact i hate cruelty of any kind, its to make a point,
Question Author
/// That is probably far too complicated for the average Daily Mail reader to understand, but there you have it. ///

Gromit being highly offensive to all those who dare to read the Daily Mail, he has also recently added the Daily Telegraph to his list of newspapers we should only read at risk of being insulted by the mighty Gromit.

A Gromit statement from an earlier thread.

/// I really fear for the Daily Telegraph, because it has been my paper of choice for 35 years. I am worried because it is morphing into the Maily Telegraph. Its Standards have slipped to pander to bigotted little Englanders. In the past it used to hold back from slipping into the Mail's blatant Xenophobia, but now it seems to be racing to be there first. ///

So if you are at all frightened of being classed a bigoted little Englander, a blatant Xenophobian, or even a little backward, then shy away from these two publications, and others that may become a candidate for his criticism at a later date.

Chewn
I do not know French and have never heard this comedians material. He is clearly anti Israel, but that is not the same as being anti semitic.

He has invented a guesture which he says is meant to be anti establishment. Jewish groups instead interpet it as a nazi salute. So he is arrested for it, but never prosecuted. The establishment are trying to ban his shows, so a footballer (and others) make the gesture in support.

I do not know Annelka's politics and I am guessing neither do you or AOG or emmie. He may well be extremely anti semitic, but copy this gesture does not prove that. Now if he had made a real nazi salute at Tottenham, then I would support a long ban, but this gesture and his motives for doing it are ambiguous to say the least.
