Where Is Your 'war On Terror' Now President Bush?

After this country slavishly followed the war-monger Bush in his laughably termed 'war on terror' (How can you fight a war against a concept?) and after all the loss of lives as soldiers 'protect' us - it has come to this.

It's as easy as two maniacs with weapons to kill people on British streets.

All that military power, time, money, casualties and deaths on both sides to 'protect' us, and how protected are we really?

Surely the time has come to accept that we can never 'win' this war, but we must try and find a solution to the hatred that drives Moslem extremists to hate the West so much.

If the numpties in the EDL start their 'revenge', then let's not imagine that Afghanistan will start happening right here, right now.

Enough is enough - time to try and sort this out with dialogue, because guns and bombs are not working for anyone.

However I do agree that Iraq should have been left out of it once we determined they had nothing to do with it so Galloway's mate would have been left in power.

Point taken - I wasn't aware of Madrid's involvement in Iraq. However, that does not detract from the fact that France and Germany have also been targeted. (And yes, I am aware they have made contributions to the Afghanistan campaign, as have most countries in Europe).

These people have declared war on the very principal of democracy and freedom, and did so decades ago, long before 9/11 and long before Iraq and Afghanistan. They are not innocent, oppressed subjects rising up against colonial rule. Whereever they're given the chance, Al Qaeda, the Taliban and the Haqqani Network have proven to be the oppressors.

Yes although I would not care to mix with some members of the EDL I do not deny them the right to protest on what they think is right, at least these 'knuckle draggers' as you and others call them, can feel proud that they are far more advanced up the time scale of Homo sapiens than the sub-species who beheaded that soldier.

This is an act of war, but what I must not do, is panic. I can't adopt the 'circle the waggons' mentality that my father had, because that proved futile and cost thousands of lives.

I mustn't go on TV and talk about a 'War On Terror' because that is a meaningless soundbite and it makes me sound like a gung-ho fool.

I mustn't commit the lives of thousands of soldiers, and millions of dollars starting a war with no exit strategy which we cannot win.

So you would have allowed Kuwait to be annexed? I realise it's fashionable to be anti-American, but I really think you're letting it cloud your judgement. The rather inept results of the first Gulf War does not undermine the valid reasons for launching it.
