Where Is Your 'war On Terror' Now President Bush?

After this country slavishly followed the war-monger Bush in his laughably termed 'war on terror' (How can you fight a war against a concept?) and after all the loss of lives as soldiers 'protect' us - it has come to this.

It's as easy as two maniacs with weapons to kill people on British streets.

All that military power, time, money, casualties and deaths on both sides to 'protect' us, and how protected are we really?

Surely the time has come to accept that we can never 'win' this war, but we must try and find a solution to the hatred that drives Moslem extremists to hate the West so much.

If the numpties in the EDL start their 'revenge', then let's not imagine that Afghanistan will start happening right here, right now.

Enough is enough - time to try and sort this out with dialogue, because guns and bombs are not working for anyone.

Not a EDL supporter but a supporter of free protest.

Strange how some never seemed to object to the riot that broke out, where more than a few bottles were thrown when the Tottenham community took to the streets following the shooting of Mark Duggan.

It is understandable that a few hot heads made a protest over the barbaric slaughter of a young white man, at least they didn't cause anywhere near the carnage and destruction than those others did.

Feelings were running very high yesterday, and I would thought that many felt they should do something, so as to air their anger.
In the long run we probably need more people to stand up and take action rather than just sitting down and condemning this sort of thing from the sidelines. But the EDL action yesterday ended up directed at the wrong people-- which is to say, everyone apart from the perpetrators. That is the problem. Every time an attack like this happens people get angry and start looking to find someone to blame -- and this is divisive and completely unhelpful.

/// AOG explain to me how attacking the police, closing a town centre and terrorising the innocent members of a community. Is in anyway risng above the murdering b$£"*&^%? ///

It's called releasing one's anger, when some cannot find any other way to protest against injustices, this way is much more preferable, than seeking out the killers and stringing them up from the nearest lamp post.

/// Not only are they no further up the scale than the two murderers, they are cowards, because they have to go mob handed. ///

For you to say that throwing a few bottles make them no further up the scale than two savages running down a fellow human being, mutilating him and finely chopping off his head, says much more about you.

// Aw, shucks. why the hell not, you only get to make history once - get me my Cheif Of Staff on the phone, these injuns need to be taught a lesson ... //

You're dodging the question andy. What do you think would have been an appropriate response from the Americans?
You've said what they shouldn't have done, (which was easy because it's a list of what they did), but what should they have done?
Releasing ones anger....that makes it okay then!!!
One or two here have touched upon something that Andy-Hughes appears to be unaware of. These people are not endowed with a western mindset. They have no interest in dialogue and they have no interest in making peace with the west. Their ultimate aim is either to subjugate or to destroy – and they will not stop until their ambitions are achieved. The infidel (aka us) is their enemy, and their holy book commands them either to convert or to slaughter the enemies of Allah – which is what they perceive us to be. They are mindless religious fanatics and there is no middle ground for them. There can be no compromise. Don’t be fooled.

/// They are thugs. If they had a legitimate cause they wouldn't feel the need to wear balaclavas. ///

Blimey don't tell me those are illegal now, why shouldn't they wear them after all we are having some cold spells lately, perhaps they come cheaper than hoodies the favoured garb of some, and please don't dare mention Burkas.

Are all those who choose to wear hoodies and Burkas thugs also?
That is a pathetic comeback from a man who is anti Burka.

Wearing a burka as part of your culture/religion cannot be compared with someone wearing a balaclava to hide their identity.

They are hiding their identity because they were out for trouble.

They aimed their aggression at the police, the people who are suppose to be protecting us from such atrocities as yesterday!!

Well done EDL for taking up so much of our police forces time!!

/// In the long run we probably need more people to stand up and take action rather than just sitting down and condemning this sort of thing from the sidelines. ///

I agree with everything you said including the EDL attacking the wrong people, but perhaps that could have been the police's fault (as many on here wish to blame) for their heavy handed approach.

But I must be careful because I don't wish to join all those other 'anti-police' lot on here.
/but what should they have done? /

Perhaps the Americans should have identified who was behind the Twin Towers attack, located them and dealt with them

which is what they eventually were able to do

the creation of wars in iraq and afghanistan in the meantime contributed little or nothing to that process other than assuaging the non-thinking element of the population of america that 'something was being done' and in the case of iraq, advancing the industrial fortunes of the Bush Clan petro-chemical empire and completing a job that Daddy left unfinished

The fact that 100-fold of the Twin Towers deaths were a consequence and the Region has been unsettled in ways we have yet to fully appreciate seem to be minor details

BTW

I think we should be cautious about knee jerk reactions to yesterday

It's natural for some people to be frightened and lose their nerve and of course it fits the existing agenda of others

But deciding strategies; domestic or foreign - on what might well be the actions of two deranged individuals acting independently would be foolish
Could not agree with you more Naomi - there is nothing you could do (except give up your country to Islam) that would appease them.

/// Releasing ones anger....that makes it okay then!!! ///

Never ever released your anger then?

Must admit some choose to be more violent in the process though.
Of course I have but I don't get angry at the wrong people!! Nothing could ever happen in this world that would make me turn on the police.
Releasing ones anger....that makes it okay then!!!

Didn't release it enough imo.
AB editor, //you can't have a discussion with someone who doesn't want a discussion with you.//
How do you know that there are not people who would be prepared to talk?
Tony - You think the EDL should have thrown more bottles at the police or caused a bit more mayhem?
AOG

Your defence of these scum says more about you.

The EDL allow themselves to be manipulated by the murdering scum and attack the innocent, if they had killed a policeman and they had idea what injury they would cause puts them, and yo, exactly in the same league.

// Could not agree with you more Naomi - there is nothing you could do (except give up your country to Islam) that would appease them. //

Unfortunately I suspect that wouldn't stop the killing either. The different sects would happily continue blowing each other up, as they are doing in Iraq and elsewhere.

tony and aog

I get it now - last night's disturbances were just a therapy session for a bunch of edl skinheads

rather selfish isn't it when the police are trying to deal with a murder enquiry?

And what would you be saying if this community "released" thier anger?

Who exactly were the EDL realeasing their anger against?
