Everywhere I look, bank, building society, insurance companies, they are all advocating joining them on Facebook or Twitter or some other site.
From what I've heard of these sites I am loathe to join them for any reason.
Surely the more sites which have your details the more likely you are to have identity theft?

I have both Facebook and Twitter several times, one personal and several for my companies and they are a great marketing tool but if you aren't happy to join then you certainly don't have to do so and you don't have to input your bank details just click ' follow' or 'like' and you will see whatever that company posts about new offers etc- it's not like online banking.
I also have FB and Twitter
You as likely to get your ID pinched using this site as any other, inc FB, Twitter and any on line bank you use
You don't have to give personal details. You can make it all up.
If you ensure your security settings are correct on Facebook then nobody will be able to see your personal details. Most identity theft happens because the victim is careless with their info.
Twitter sounds too much like hard work for me, but I do love Facebook. The important thing is to keep your security settings high and only accept as 'friends' people you really know. And with a Facebook profile, you don't have to fill in all the personal details anyway. So I think it's pretty safe if you're careful. But I certainly wouldn't want to follow my bank or insurance company on Facebook - how boring is that!
i have no interest in facebook, twitter, skype and all the other nonsense. (call me old-fashioned).
in fact, being on here is the only thing i've done in that area.
but even if you dont fill our personal details, or use fake ones, you can still be the victim of id theft
Nothing to do with FB, Twitter etc - your PC security is what they will hack, not your bloomin FB where anyone who wants your ID will know people use fake details
To me, Facebook is OK, good to keep in touch with old acquaintances, Skype is brilliant IMO... as for the twitters... lol really not worth bothering with. I do know what you mean about them crammed down your face though.

just to add, this is also one of my favorite sites.
Some facebook pages are handy because you can ask questions and get an answer almost straight away, rather than having to write in. Special offers etc. are sometimes only given on fb.
