I have a female cat, about 2 years old, born in my home but until now does not like direct attention. If I go to pet her she runs usually seeking cover under a table with chairs. I usually spend time on the floor sitting near her while she is under the table. She begins to purr and will walk near but still under a chair. When she is sleeping in on a chair I can pet her and she purrs, but often she will try to get away. She does follow me at times and has just started coming into to room at night. we found her asleep on our bed last night. She is not aggressive with the family and lives well with our other male cat who was a kitten when she was born. Both are neutered. She also hates to spend time outside but knows when she has to 'go'. Do you think she will ever warm up enough to be closer to a 'lap cat'? Her mother by the way was a feral cat but very friendly and warm with me.
thanks

We have a cat exactly the same, her mum was a ferral cat but I don't know if this is a link!! My mum refers to her as being Autistic because she has all the same characteristics as an autistic person. She is a lovely cat though but everything is on her terms. I am sorry but our cat is 14 and she has always been the same, so I do not think she will change, its a bit late!!!! x x x

The 'feral' part is not passed on.

Try a Feliway plug-in diffuser, available over the counter at vets. It is a happy cat pheromone.
