I do quite a lot of solitary hiking, and on occasions I am quite remote from nearest town / village etc, and have thought what may happen if I became incapacitated, and wasn’t sure of My exact position. I now have what3words on my phone which gives me a means of letting emergency services of my location down to a few metres.
It is certainly growing in popularity, I have quite a few visitors to my house to collect and deliver things, my "What 3 Words" bring them right outside my door, excellent app, you get the opportunity to send a photo of your location as well, not that you really need it but I send a pic of the front of my house so they instantly recognise it.!! brings you with 3 meters of your location. I am very impressed.

foo it gladdens my heart when I see on a perfectl straighforward post and someone asks:

"where are you" is answered by just three words and when the three words are entered on the data base the emergency services know exactly where you are
installed it yesterday - odd innit and up it comes today on AB
and noted it for my front room just in case someone in control asks "where dat den?"

canary, the three words (which you don't get to choose ha!) map to a GPS location and a map reference. Three words in your own language are much easier for most people to remember than a string of numbers. The hook with current postcodes is that not everywhere has one....eg on a moor in the middle of the New Forest. its a clever concept...I have a small investment in it via crowdfunding.
