I would ban all elasticated waisted clothing. The only exceptions would be the under 5s, sports persons actually doing sport and disabled people who are unable to fiddle with fastenings.

What would you ban?

What - even underpants!!!!
Air conditioning in restaurants and pubs.
Couldn't be doing without my tracky-bottoms. I wear them all the time.
Oh no, my knickers would fall down!
In reply - I would ban chewing gum.
people who want to control what I wear/do/eat
Why would you ban clothing with elasticated waists? You can buy clothes that don't have elasticated waists.
people who didn't like elasticated waistbands
I think Barry must own a belt factory!

naomi, I firmly believe that elasticated waistbands have contributed significantly to this country's obesity problem.
I know people that only wear 'leisure wear' and really have no idea that they are getting bigger and bigger as their clothes seem to grow with them. A tight waistband is an early warning sign.
A tight waistband is an early warning sign./// Tell me about it Barry LOL.
Realising you're getting fat(ter) doesn't mean you would do something about it except maybe by a larger size in trousers.

'Leisure wear' also seems to encourage a slouchy, slovenly way of walking which doesn't involve picking up ones' feet.
This contributes to bad posture, poor stomach muscles and eventually a bad back and hips.

davebro, it would get expensive having to replace one's wardrobe every 6 months.
As both a driver and pedestrian I would ban bikes and motorbikes, particularly the very noisy ones. Both drive me nuts but I'm sure that's because I live in a very densely populated area of London.

I'm loving my elasticated waists at the moment!
Good for the rag trade though. Way back when people used to wear much more voluminous clothing - baggy pants, big jackets, overcoats, fancy hats. Kept the cotton & wool industries going. Can't recall seeing anyone in an overcoat now - even in the depths of winter.
Question Author
tigger, I walk along canal towpaths as often as I can (not nearly often enough at the moment) and pushbikes are a menace. Many cyclists race up behind me and expect me to hop out of the way - of course I don't always hear them coming. I'm surprised I haven't had a heart attack or fell in to the cut
Birmingham?
Question Author
davebro, I love my top coats. I have them in black, navy, camel and grey and of course I have a short raincoat and long one. They last years. I still have a crombie with red lining from back in the day - shame I can't get in to it.
