We bought a new sofa which when delivered could not get into the living room as it was too big. We were told by the delivery men that the firm would charge us a Handing Charge. The sofa was quite expensive £1700. Does anyone have any idea as to what the charge will be - is it a percentage of the cost or what. Never had this problem before. The sofa was shorter than the one we have but deeper so that's why it wouldn't fit in. I've asked the firm about the financial implications, but as yet have had no joy. Can anyone advise please.

Thanks for your reply bednobs. Yes I've checked their website, but it doesn't mention anything about handing charges, only delivery costs.
Did you buy it online or instore?

Unfortunately, in the store - can't cancel the order !
was there no mention of what the charge would be in the paperwork when you purchased? We had this issue with John Lewis some time ago....happily the sofa fitted but the handling charge was clearly witten into the purchase documentation. It was years ago though and I don't remember what it was, just that we checked it out before we signed.
Boo. I bet you have a standard size house with normal size doors. The only thing you can do for now is wait and see
hc, its seelie who is asking, not Boo, or do you know something we don't?
I think he's say boo because seelie bought it instore not boo our much loved mod!

No mention of handling charge on receipt. It says any costs incurred with failure to deliver will be the responsibility of the customer !!
Just wish I had a clue of what we will be hit with. I know it's not their fault they can't deliver. Have a feeling it's going to cost us.
