I am against religious slaughter in the uk, for animal welfare reasons only. This has nothning to do with racism at all. It has been reported in the papers than muslim inmates are suing the prison service for being served ham sandwiches for ramadan. I have now discovered that all Tesco lamb and chicken apart from Willow Farm and Finest Free Range lines from are halal, and the animal is recited an islamic prayer during slaughter.
I have been buying Tesco healthy living chicken for my family for a long time and now to my horror discover this is halal. As a Christian do I have any rights to sue for this, what about my human rights and my freedom of religioun rights, I feel they have both been violated.

No.
did it taste ok?
Suing would cost you a fortune. Further, since there is no legal obligation to indicate the method of slaughter on packaging, you've got nothing to sue over.

Anyway, the word 'all' in your post is wildly inaccurate. Even the alarmist Daily Mail can't come up with any figures to support your claim:

Chris
i buy my meat from a halal butcher, far nicer than supermarkets
If I were a Muslim I would be unhappy about ham sandwiches, Ramadan or not - the prison service should know better than that.
Out of interest, where did you find out that all this Tesco meat is halal? It doesn't surprise me at all and it doesn't bother me one bit, halal meat is very tasty - but I would be surprised if there were enough Islamic slaughterhouses about to satisfy the supply requirements of an organisation as massive as Tesco's. We bought halal chicken for our wedding, as we had several Muslim guests, and my butcher didn't even know that he was buying halal all the time, he just bought it from a warehouse. I wouldn't know if I was buying meat that is Kosher either, and it doesn't bother me one bit.
Stop shopping at Tesco and go to a good old fashioned butcher who can tell you where the meat came from.
Thanks for the comparison table Chris, that's much more like it.
What concerns you more;
1. the manner in which the animal is dispatched;
2. the last thing to enter its ears is a prayer to a fictitious being who is different from the fictitious being in whom you choose to believe ?
Is anyone else as sick of the claims culture in this country. I know I am.

It looks as though you will have to get banged up in prison to be able to sue successfully, auntsal. Ian Huntley et al are all trying to screw some money out of the system.
we bought a pack of drumsticks from tesco that had been reduced,when my good wife came to cook them she noticed thet were halal and we were both a bit dubious.they turned out the best ever, or she has learnt to cook at last

Thanks for being so considerate, enjoy your halal then. Maybe if you watched an animal writhing in pain after having its throat cut whilst fully conscious and taking upto 20 mins to die in agony you may feel different, nah dont suppose you would!
If you feel that strongly about animals suffering you would already be vegetarian
Question Author
Same old answer, go veggie lol why should I, I live in a country whose law states animals should be rendered unconscious prior to slaughter. If I wanted meat from an animal which was barbarically slaughtered I would go to a country whose law it is to slaughter halal style. I was just hoping for a straight forward answer, not a lecture or scarcasm thanks.
It takes far less than 20 minutes.............stop being so sulky.

I take it you'll be turning vegetarian now ?
Sorry, I just can`t see where paying you a fat wad of cash will make any difference to animal suffering, unless of course you intend donating your massive payout to animal charity!
prisoners don't get much choice in what to eat. You on the other hand are free to give Tesco's a miss. That's why they can sue and you can't. Tesco's would just point out that you are a victim of your own ignorance and should sue yourself.
as a Christian you must be cross.
