my ex-boyfriend bought me a ring, but it didn\'t work out, so i agreed that i would pay for the ring even though the account isn\'t under my name. its been 2 years already and i can\'t afford it anymore so i stopped now he is harrasing me to continue making payments as we agreed or else he will get his lawyers. am i legally responsilbe to make the payments even though the credit card is under my name? i don\'t even get the statements, he recently changed the address to his so now he receives them but he still wants me to pay for it. can a lawyer do anything to me?

Your Ex bought the ring on HIS credit card?

You say in your question that it's not in your name but then that it is...

If it's in his name then no, your are not responsible.
Question Author
ummmm: the place where he bought the ring is under his name, the account is under his name. i just go and make the payments.
do you still have the ring?
Like if I went and bought a sofa and gave the shop my name but my boyfriend applied for the HP?

His responsibility....
Question Author
albaquerty: yes i still have he ring
ummm: so even though i verbally agreed that i would take over the payments, but it isn't under my name can he seriously get the law involved? i mean he says he has a lawyer if i continue not to make payments?
why not sell it back to the shop?
As far as I'm aware, no he can't. He has to pay as the contract is in his name.

Why don't you give him the ring back?

He could take you to the small claims court.
Question Author
alberquerty: yeah, already tried to but didn't work. not in thier policy to do so
I agree with ummmm, give him the ring back.
Or try selling it through small ads ?
Question Author
hmmm: so because i have the ring he could take me to small claims court? or he just can period? i don't even try to give it back cause he will refuse any kind of deal. he just wants his account paid.
It's HIS account and it was a gift to you.

Personally I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure a law person will come in and give you a factual answer.
