Hi All,

A bit confused at the moment.

I have been a victim of hate crime over the last 2 months, police have arrested the person who is my next door neighbour.

My neighbour posted my address on the EDL and combat18 website preaching racial and religious hate, i then had to flee my house as i couldnt live there anymore and stayed in a hotel for 6-7 weeks. He has pleaded guilty to sending me hate mail and posting my addess on the websites.

The question i have is will i get that money back that as compestion?

lcg - lamking may be a homeowner.
Hey, just my opinion. You felt free to offer yours. A pretty strong one as well, considering they have posted little more than one short paragraph...
There is more than meets the eye with this story.
I don't think anyone can make a decent judgement until we heard it all.

Time for a Harp exit Ummmm.

who said he/she wanted the hotel money back "and more"? i'm inclined to agree with ummm - you sound bitter - you didn't get compensated cause you did things the "proper" way according to you (but who would want to stay in a house if it were being petrol-bombed?) so ianking shouldn't!
Money comes from:
Court award (if they decide to award it) AND the person will/can pay.
Civil claim (AND the person will/can pay)
hc - i also offered advice if they are a homeowner...and albags is also right. until we know all the ins and outs, we can only guess...and offer opinions
ps i am not sure if this can be sorted in small claims court, but if it can, that's really cheap to do
bednobs...never said he should. but...move and concentrate on himself and his integrity
This isn't about you icg. This has absolutely nothing to do with what ever has happened in your past. I suggest you go off and deal with your issues elsewhere. It's not fair on IamKing.
the key for this post is 'having' to flee his house, choosing to flee his house or being advised. all mean a world of difference
yes you did, you said "people should not be naive, make their own decisions without consulting others (if that's what happened) and then expect every penny and more back"
where did i say this was about me? i give in...you're all soooooo opinionated when you want to be. people in glass houses and all that. you can suggest away, ummmm.
how do you know he was hounded out of his house? i refer to the above - his right to redress will rest on the difference. you are all bitching at me, but fail to offer the king any constructive advice.
lol...me opinionated? Read your answers back....
IamKing - this case is actually quite complicated. You potentially have more than one cause of action. I would suggest you see a solicitor on a free half hour consultation if necessary. The alternative is, try the Bar Pro Bono unit.

As has already been suggested, the three potential routes of compensation are through the criminal courts (as a compensation order, but potentially unlikely to be the full amount - have you completed a Victim Personal Statement?) b) the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (not entirely sure they would pay out in this case or c) a civil claim againt the perpetrator (only worth pursuing if he has assets against which you can enforce a judgement).

And as for a small minority of posters above, a) this is answerbank not judgemebank and b) if you don't know what you are talking about, shut up.
I'd say, where the OP says "I then had to flee my house" indicates that he was hounded out if his house.

much as I'm not entirely convinced!
could it be done via small claims court barmaid?
ummm...you read some of yours in other posts too. i don't deny i am opinionated. this is an opinionated place, but you could concentrate on the op rather than me...i rarely find myself in this position - but others on here? mmm.
Depends on the value, Bednobs.
