Hi All,

A bit confused at the moment.

I have been a victim of hate crime over the last 2 months, police have arrested the person who is my next door neighbour.

My neighbour posted my address on the EDL and combat18 website preaching racial and religious hate, i then had to flee my house as i couldnt live there anymore and stayed in a hotel for 6-7 weeks. He has pleaded guilty to sending me hate mail and posting my addess on the websites.

The question i have is will i get that money back that as compestion?

i'm sorry i don't know the answer but find it hard to believe the posts above, and hope you do
I agree with bednobs....

No, money doesn't make you happy....unless some numpty got you into debt because you had to flee your home and stay in a hotel...
Icg....do you know the answer?
A check with a solicitor (not the financial sort) may be in order.......
you may have a civil case against your neighbour......
^^^^ - agree entirely with ummmm

I hate the "compensation culture" which goes after "money for nothing" - but this is very different - there has been a real and quantifiable loss.

If the neighbour is convicted then they should pay compensation, not for 'hurt or distress' but for the costs they have caused you to incur.
no, ummm i don't know the answer. i just offered my opinion and expressed my distaste for the 'can i sue?' attitude of someone who is fortunate enough to have their perpetrator caught, processed and pleading guilty. and calls themselves a king.
They haven't asked 'can I sue' They have asked if they could get compensated for costs they have accrued through no fault of their own.
Speak to the police, when I was working in a Bank we used to get a compensation claim form when anyone was arrested to try and get back any of the money they had defrauded. Quite often successful.
Agree with ummmm, IamKing is being reasonable as there are probably costs of several hundred ounds, if not a few thousand involved. You will need the receipts IamKing - and don't forget additional food and travel costs....

i wonder if you would feel the same way if your neighbour had hounded you out of your house leaving you scared to go home? Probably not i suspect!
he's pleaded guilty - has he been sentenced yet? it may be that the court will order him to pay you compensation in any event. You may be able to claim from Criminal Injuries, although I believe this is limited to claims for personal injury plus incidental costs, and if there's no injury I don't think you can claim.

I'm sorry to hear this has happened, and hope that you do find compensation. I'm surprised that others have accused you of being part of the compensation culture - you have clearly been a victim and have suffered financial loss as a direct result of that. Good luck to you.
Why did youhave to flee your home? What exactly was happening?

You sound bitter....
when I worked in industry and people were found guilty and ordered to pay compensation, they used to pay footling amounts like 50p a week. - it really dragged it out. I'm not aware of a fund such as the Criminal Injuries compensation board which could pay out in an instance like this.
