I recently bought these...edgekeeper scissors...from wilko.

I cannot get the protective sheath off. I've gripped and pulled, it doesn't budge. I'm a bit afraid to pull to hard...I've visions of sharp blades flying. Maybe there's a secret button...

Put it in boiling water for 30 seconds. The sheath will expand sufficiently for you to remove it.

I'll give that a go later...and report back.
You need some scissors to cut it off.
I’ve bought scissors with the same problem - need scissors to use them
Question Author
But the sheath/sleeve is also the sharpener...so I can't cut it. But I might have to at this rate.

pasta, if you squeeze the handles tightly together will that permit their removal from the sheath?
Also, have you thought of asking a question on the relevant Amazon page? You cannot be the only purchaser to have this problem.
Hi Pastafreak,
Looking at the image you posted, I'm wondering if you have to break a seal where the handles meet. But it seems a mystery why the instructions aren't clearer.
Did you know that the way to sharpen scissors is ... take a piece of aluminium foil, fold it 3 or 4 times, then cut along it's length with the scissors a couple of times. Use the full length of the scissor blades and make the length of the folded aluminium longer than the scissor blades. That works.
Yes, I did Togo. :-)

Pasta, that red bit must be significant. Does it slide at all?
I'd return them to Wilko, if they can't open them then they should replace them - but test them in the store first.
It looks to me as if, to get the sharpener watsit off you have to open the scissors as if to use them.
You're a sharp one Tills :))
Looking at the image you posted, in the left hand picture, the model's left hand is holding the sheath - is there any sort of button there to depress?
Try putting them in the freezer overnight. The blades should contract and leave a wee bit more room.

Failing that, can you squirt a wee bit WD40 into the sheath to lubricate it?
Did you get the scissors out in the end?
Question Author
Nope...not yet. Tried the boiling water...no joy. Just tried the freezer earlier...not overnight though...that's not worked. The scissors don't even seem to have any wiggle room within the sheath.
I can't find the damn receipt either, not that they were expensive. I'll ask my neighbour to give it a go when I next see him.

Eek...just tried again. And it came off!
Hurrah!!
Phew!
