Tea or milk in first?

If you are making a pot of tea, do you put the milk into the cup and then pour the tea in or do you pour in the tea first and then add your milk. I think I heard once that if you have the milk in the cup first you may scald it when adding the tea and getting a poor flavour. Is there any truth in that do you think?

I don't drink tea but with my coffee I put the milk in last.
Like it matters. Pot ? Didn't they use them a few decades ago ?

But I put milk in last because fishing the teabag out of the mug when the milk has already been added looks a bit yuk.

I swap about with coffee ummm, usually depends on whether the kettle is boiled or if I'm waiting on it.
Would mean the tea wasn't brewing near 100° C either.
Milk in first then I know when to stop pouring the tea or hot water in my case, without over-filling.
I drink black tea too. Can't stand milk in it. If making tea for others I put the milk in last.

Yeah geezer, we only just got the teapot, first one I've ever bought. I'll tell you what though, it saves a load of bother if you are making 5 or 6 cups, seriously.
I put the milk in last so I can choose to make it milky or non milky, its more difficult to judge before hand

Oh ummmm, I can't stand milky coffee, it makes me feel sick!! Likewise with any milk whatsoever in tea. Milk makes tea greasy in my opinion. I always get complaints from people that they haven't got enough milk in their tea when I make it.

Yes it has to be really hot, which apparently is really bad for you!!
The maid always puts the milk in last. She was brung up proper.

Has anyone got any opinion on the scalding possibility?
I could be wrong but I thought that 'milk in first' originated from when there was no pasteurisation or sterilisation and the hot water killed some of the bugs in the milk.
Best to leave the milk out completely then Robinia. Whoever thought of putting milk in tea - it doesn't go. It's a very British habit. ;o)
