yeah ok watever that means
i have the same amount and am looking for a similar spec myself. im really no expert but can tell you that mostly i seem to be looking at puntos & clios. ive heard bad things about both reliability wise. id love a seat ibiza or leon, and if i wasnt in a bit if a rush id wait till one came available in price range. tomorrow im test driving a nissan almera 1.8 sport and ive read good reports about these although probably the least good looking car IMHO. hey you're not in the midlands chasing the same motors as me are ya!?

ive got a cougar v6 at the moment. been looking at a few gtvs but they have reliability problems(as all alfas do).i agree with you mandimoo seat leon is the car 4 me(cupra of course)they just seem so expensive.my cougar is 0-60 in 8.2 seconds so hopefully i can get something a bit quicker.Almeras are a bit bland mandimoo. let me know how u get on
hi i'll sell you a bmw 318i w reg for 3grand totally mint .give me an email cheers
mitsi gto, very fast and look great, good price too.
jammy , the almera was good, but only compared to my 1989 peugeot 205 (that someone gave me 2 yr ago), but it drifted and squeaked and had a fluttery sound from the engine so its a no go and back to square 1 im afraid. i will keep watching, let me know what you get.

looking 4 something a bit faster sorry joeb.hey mandimoo buy a cougar v6 there great i loved mine might even get another 1 (alot of car 4 the money)im sick of looking on autotrader lol. think im getting desperate ive found myself looking at mazdas and fiats
jaguar xj6 x300, 4.0l quite nippy. should be able to get a 1998-99 model for that sort of price?
jammy, there are a couple of leon cupras for sale on autotrader in coventry area around the 3k mark, so if you are in distance have another look in that area. all the best, i couldnt afford the insurance on top!
Sp the biggest danger when looking to buy a sporty car with high BHP thats good value is that one tends to overlook every other trait of the car other than its BHP, and ends up goign for an early 90's BMW that can't fit anyone in the back, doesn't handle as well as todays cars, has a lot of BHP but the engine isn't nearly as efficient with that power as modern day engines, has awful fuel economy, high insurance bills, and most importantly if it crashes into a squirrel you'll die.

So I suggest you be a discerning buyer and search the autotrader website for a 2.0 litre ford focus which is pretty fast 125 mph top speed 0-62 in 9.3 seconds, has fantastic sporty handling, good gearbox, lots of space, comfortable, easy to drive, fuel efficient and if you get it in relatively high spec has got good alloy wheels and again most importantly unlike 99% of everythign else you can get for less than 3 grand if you crash into a some form of woodland life its 4 stars in the crash tests will mean that the poor creature will come out worse off than you. So I did a quick search on auto trader and found a 2.0 Ghia hatchback 2001 with relatively horredously low mileage at 32,000, sold by a dealer who may even give you a warantee, all for 2,900.

I include the link to the Euroncap website with the crash test results for that model of focus, unfortunately the vast majority of other cars mentioned in other posts were built at at time when they didn't care whether you lived or died when knocking into another car, so the website won't have test results before the late 90's.

Good luck choosing a car, I do hope you find a very good one, and a very safe one, as accidents happen.
