I have a neighbour who has obsessive compulsive disorder. She has a twelve year old Land Rover which looks better than the day it left the showroom. Every time she takes it out it is immediately washed as soon as she returns (even if it’s dark and/or raining). As well as this, it gets “thoroughly washed” at least once a week. The wheels are scrubbed; the upholstery cleaned; the loose mats removed and vacuumed. Sometimes she will wash the car twice in one day. She's the same with the house windows - they can be cleaned up to three times in a week. The problem caused her marriage to collapse. Her new partner cannot live with her. He visits and stays for a night or two but that’s as much as he can take. That seems to work for them, but it’s very sad.
On a more cheerful note, another neighbour washes three cars (and sometimes four) religiously every Sunday. He’s doing so now, even though it’s drizzling with rain. He washes his own, his wife’s and his daughter’s. On some occasions his son, who lives elsewhere, will visit and he'll wash his car too.
Mine gets taken to the hand car wash in Tesco’s when I can no longer see through the windows. It costs £7 plus the price of a Flat White in the Costa Cafe whilst I'm waiting.
