I've found him on the 1911 census (under Brisner - another 1911 transcription error) and he says his nationality is british - whether this means he was naturlised or born british, I have no idea.
Question Author
thank you barmaid. i haven't go access to 1911 census. what age is he in 1911?
what was max snr's given occupation on the marriage cert? anything that may suggest travel abroard?
Question Author
he was down as a 'clothier'
Hang on a mo, I'll transcribe the entry onto here.
A clothier bought and sold fabrics and cloth, the level of business varied from selling locally woven pieces at local markets , or importing and distributing bulk qualtities, I'm wondering with the egyptian connection whether it was the egyptian cotton industry, which would tie in nicely with cardiff docks

thanks for taking time to help. this info is brill :-)
hey I lived at Llantwit Major when i was first married, there is a huge cement works still on the coast there, Blue Circle Cement it was in the 1970s, near the airport.
Bridgend is 10 miles west of LLantwit and there are quarries all around there. Penarth is about 10 miles the other side of Llantwit nearer to Cardiff, all those places have docks/ports.
Question Author
im quite familiar with the area as i was born in penarth as was my father. i still have family living in bridgend so it all makes sense.
on 1901 there was a reuben aged 1 barmaid, can you spot him? he's still alive at it says 6 of 6 alive, he could be with a grandmother bresner somewhere!
Oh I worked in Howells on St Mary St Cardiff jubie
Walter James Vaughan aged 40 married, occupation carter hacker, contractor, born in Somerset but I can't read where, english
Mary Ann, wife, 39, married 5 years, no children, born in Cardiff L? Wells
Ethel Bresner, 7, niece, at school, born in Penarth
Mary Duggan, 68, widow, boarder, born in Methyr, Welsh
Gladys Bresner, 4, niece, born in Penarth.

So by my reckoning we just need to find child number 6!

My guess is that Mary Ann was Beatrice's sister.
Can't find Reuben yet Dotty, will keep hunting (my own research is proving extremely frustrating today so I've given up).
Question Author
