Traditionally, port is drunk after dinner, and in upper class society, the ladies would withdraw, and the gentlemen would remain at the table, smoke cigars, tell rude jokes, and pass the port - always to the left.

These days, things are more relaxed, and port can be drunk at any time. I believe it goes nicely with cheese and buscuits, but I'm tee-total so i can't speak from experience.

I like a little port splashed on top of melon as an appetizer. As a drink, port is very nice mixed with lemonade.
Hi there, I love a drop of port after dinner and yes, with cheese.

Port and Stilton is one of the marriages made in heaven.

Port is too sweet without it. Stilton too strong without it.

But get a goood port and a goood stilton.

The quality of port that you get when you break through the 10 barrier is vastly superior.

You can also mix it with the Blue WKD and you end up with a drink that tastes like Vimto, we named them Cheeky Vimto's, they're lovely
And what do you call your new carpet pattern?
Its not sickly if thats what u meant its very nice
Cheeky Vimtos have been around for 5 years or so (take a gobfull of Blue WKD and top it back up with a shot of port). I like Blue WKD and I love port, but I hate Cheeky Vimtos. I hate Vimto, too. And it actually uncanny how similar the two taste.

WKD comes in a few flavours, but the most popular two are "Blue" and "Iron Brew". It's an alcoholic beverage in a bottle and looks like this.

I tried a WKD Vimto years ago, and it's nice.  I love Vimto, but I like the squash/ cordial/ juice not the canned fizzy Vimto.  It is strange how similar they taste!  I don't like WKD on it's own tho, far too sweet, as is Port.

Anyways..... How do you drink it?

Well I know someone who drinks it with a slice of lemon in it, a lot of people drink it with a dash of lemonade.  And lots of people drink it straight.

...mmm....well back in the old days when we were courting a lass...the ONLY drink for a girl was a Port and Lemon........only course girls drank beer and wine was something the French had with meals. <G>

BTW....courting a girl was something you did with a girl BEFORE you got married and had your kids.... in that order .;-)

Port is great in the top of a pint of guiness>>> bloody exoensive, but very drinkable. It takes the bitterness of the guiness, and the sweetness of the port..

Also good with Brandy, and usually drank on its own with a nice piece of stilton

But chheky vimto is also fine

Was also told that to 'down' a port and brandy would settle a dicky tummy.

Have never tried this one though, would probably make me sick!
