try getting him onto vegetable crisps?
He's probably addicted to the crunchy taste/texture and as a crisp addict myself I can highly recommend temping him with Dr. Haag crispbreads. You can get them from some supermarkets and health food shops and they are without doubt the crunchiest crispbreads I've ever eaten. One variety comes in a cheese flavour with baked pumpkin seeds sprinkled on it and one crispbread will equate that "crunchy packet of crisps" feeling.

mmmm thanks guys wendy they sound lovely x
Sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds (pepitas), almonds - would be the healthiest I think - but any kind of nuts would be better - at least he would be getting some nutrition from them.
Walkers now do these oven baked crisps which are delicious and have much less fat and salt than regular crisps.
Include some crunchy fruit or batons of carrot and celery or a scotch egg in his pack-up
I eat crisps all day long as well , infact is theres none in the house for my breakfast n the morning Im not worth living with.
Im afraid nomatter what i tried to eat instead of crips nothing worked , cus nothin is a light or crunchy as crips , nuts seeds ext take to long to eat , crisps take mins and in my case somtimes seconds to eat a pack.
Sam - maybe you could make him a healthier homemade version like these:

home made popcorn (plain though) is a good low fat alternative.
3-4 packets a day isn't bad - my brother eats about 10 (and he's cut down!!!)
