I would say approx 2.5kg, i think that works out at around 6lbs i think? Most bags are in metric anyway these days!

hi erm i dont think 2.5 kg of pasta will feed 100 teenagers!

ok so say your average bag of pasta is 500grams (or 1lb) i would say perhaps four or five portions from each pack...go on five. So i think you are going to need a lot of pasta and a v big pan!!!

should you be able to get 1kg bags of pasta (normally able to get these in adsa or large outlets of other supermarkets) then each should give 10 large portions so you will need 10 packs.

Can i ask what the occasion is?!

I'd agree if a pasta dish was the only thing being served Steve208, but as Kim said she's serving other things too, a 25g (uncooked weight) portion per person is a pretty standard measurement when catering for masses, lol! I don't envy you one little bit Kim, i'm so glad those days are over for me!
25 grams? Less than an ounce per head? I don't think so....standard serving is 4oz (about 115g) per head. That means approx 11.5 Kg (roughly 25lb) for 100 servings. And GALLONS of water to boil it in....good luck!
Forgot to add - Aldi's pasta is not only extremely cheap but also very good; wouldn't go anywhere else if I'm cooking pasta for more than half a dozen.

I'd allow 120g of a short pasta like penne, per person. Cook in 10 litres of water per 500g of pasta, with 2 tbsp salt.

Big value bags are at your local cash & carry. You could cook it and oven finish in the sauce - depends where you are catering - access to BIG pans? boiling rings? large ovens? What sauce?

Have fun....

Steve, The occasion is son's graduation from high school.
Kim - sounds, then, as though you are in the US, in which case you probably won't have an Aldi to go to (don't know if they are in the US, but I doubt it); but there will be a similar store that will sell big bags of cheap pasta.
