Where Mr Alba has been working for the previous few days, at break he's gone outside to admire the grounds/gardens and has been delighted to see so many different styles/colours of butterlies.

He now wants us to get lots of Buddleia to encourage them to visit our postage stamp of a garden, don't have a problem with that.

No question really, am just pleased he enjoyed seeing some wonderful butterflies.

I have one- they definitely attract them. And also bees- my neighbour's buddleia was literally vibrating with them a few months ago xx
That'll be lovely alba. I love to see butterflies, they certainly lift my spirits immediately. Fascinating creatures..

considering this came from a man who doesn't know his dandelions from a daisy, it tickled me.
Had to tell him it was buddleia :-)

I love butterflies, and bees, wonderful works of nature
Have a look at compact buddleia, Alba......great for small gardens and pots so you can have a variety......and they won't seed all over the garden.....Blue Chip is said to be good.....xx
Question Author
oooh, thanks gness xx

have made a note of that :-) x
Wish I had a compact one, mine takes over the whole small yard/garden and has to be constantly pruned back !! Saw very few butterflies this year, sadly.

Hi ham :-) xx

our previous back garden vanished into the distance

5 apple trees, 3 tiers of lawn and 2 veggie plots.
lovely, but an absolute mare to try to control
See butterfly-conservation.org
I know albs, things can just take over ! I've even got a flamin' buddleia growing out of my chimney which I will have to get a roofer to get rid of lol.
Question Author
thanks Scoop, will have a squint at that shortly x
Be careful about Buddleia......before you know, it will have taken over your whole garden. As Gness has suggested, choose a compact version.

I think I'll send himself to get 2 pots, 2 compact budds and we'll pop them in the back garden away from the pooches who like to have a wee in the front garden :-D
That's what I said mikey.
You did indeed, but did you provide the same link as I did ?
Question Author
Thanks Mikey xx

Am now in 2 minds, back garden is south facing but maybe, just maybe in pots it might just hopefully behave?
Question Author
ham, you could always take cuttings and send them to me :-D xx

or are Budds one of these things that need root powder?
hereIam, mikey is right.

I once provided a sky-news link but as it was a sky-news news mikey kindly provided a proper link from the BBC.
Alba....there is no such thing as a really well-behaved Buddleia !

Its one of those plants that is really almost a tree, although we seem to want them to perform like a small border shrub. It will welcome full sun, so a south-facing position should be ideal.

But be prepared to prune !
The sarcasm in your post Talbot is audible across vast distances is about as private and as subtle as a horses fart.

My post provided the only link, and Alba seems quite
happy.
Alba....by the way, there are lots of other plants that will attract butterflies, lavender being my favourite, and not invasive at all !

Majoram/Oregano are also wonderful, and very well behaved, and you can use them yourselves as well.
