BBC Breakfast this morning showed a food enhancer. I missed the first part of the programme but I think it originated in Japan.
Later I switched to Ch 5 and on The Wright Show they appeared to have just dealt with the product.
BBC iplayer does not yet have the programme so I can'f find details and the name.
I think it was said that product would be in supermarkets shortly.
Does anyone know of this item?.

Its called Umami and its dubbed the fifth taste and will be marketed under that name, available in Waitrose price £2.99 i suppose it wont be long until the other major supermarkets stock it
Thanks for that link pastafreak,I cannot wait to try it.
Maybe it will replace MSG in fast food one day!
Heston Blumental's been using it for a while. In the supermarkets, as poodi says, in silver "toothpaste style" tubes with a big No 5 in brown. see also here
