Does anyone know this medication, and can advise me, does it have side effects. I have been prescribed this for pain relief as nothing else has worked so far,

sadly, GPs can and do misprescribe, though not often. emmie's sensible to ask about other people's experiences.
I was prescribed Tramadol after a hip replacement. Took it with paracetamol for about 8 weeks and it definitely worked at relieving pain.
i know i bang on about paracetamol all the time
But there is some synergy between opiods and paracetamol, which makes both medicines work better, although the mechanism is poorly understood.
therefore I would always recommend using paracetamol as well as tramadol, even if one has found paracetamol ineffective before.
With opiods, if you are using them for pain, the "addiction" aspect (which is over exaggerated by people IMO) isn't usually a factor because the effect is all used up by the pain, so you tend not to stray on over to addiction. If you were to take them when you had no pain, you would be more likely to stray into "needing" them

Bednobs//there is some synergy between opiods and paracetamol//
I take Cocodamol 30/500 for my pains which is a codeine/paracetamol combination.I find that this works for me.
If pain is so unbearable ( and often it is) . I’d be very eager to take a new/ suggested medication from a doctor.
Forget other people’s bad experience.
The trick with any analgesia is take the medication before it gets too bad.
Hope it works for you Emmie, take it as prescribed, I agree with Bednobs about paracetamol as well if you can take it, Increase fibre in your diet and up your liquid intake a little you should be fine. I wish I could take it or something similar.
sensible to ask about other people's experiences.
sensibler to take a little and see if it works

taken any yet?

///It is licensed for children so there is no doubt it is safe///

Ho! humm! I don't think that it is, unless I am out of date, which is possible.

Ah! the Internet has confirmed what I already assumed -;)
eek - yes probably sqad

my colleague used it alot ( so I thought it was )- OK for kids, they didnt seem to mind the hallucinations
god this is a bit technical for AB - lucky no one reads this - and if they do no one understands it (*)
Drugs dont have to be licensed to be used in children
Rylands told a commons committee that if they limited drugs in children to those with a licence, then they cd rip the Paed BNF in half. ( Rylands had written it)

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9389843/

off licence - off label, paracet is licensed for temp reduction in children and not analgesia - does me ed in. I have been retired for 10 y

carry on ABers

(*) and if they inderstand it they say it is wrong - OK they say that anyway

ooh ome on tell us
did it work
