should you drink in a day to keep yourself hydrated? Does it depend what time of the year it is?

I drink a lot of water when I`m at work but at home I just leave a glass by the tap in the kitchen and have a sip every time I go in there. My Mum never drank water - just tea and cordials. When she became ill with breast cancer she used to have a lot of blood tests. I remember the GP told me that there is an equation that he used to work out what one's kidney test should be. My Mum was spot on for an 84 year old. Nobody of my parents' generation walked around whilst carrying bottles of water. That came about from marketing and everybody fell for it.
I think there's a lot of truth in that, 237.
I always use tap water to refill my plastic bottle. Isn't there a huge difference between drinking tap water oop north compared to darn sarf... ours is clean and purified but down south it comes direct from the Thames.

It would Explains a lot ;-)
I could never drink at night from a glass by the bed.

There might be a spider in it.
water darn south here in Cornwall doesn't originate from the Thames.....really, that comment about water darn South is almost worthy of an American's knowledge of Geography.
Food for thought... I'm going to leave a few about from now on... if they think the can bathe in my water... well breakfast is served.
DTC I was making a quip about hard and soft water really.
and there was the American who thought hard water was also known as ice.....
I couldn't go to bed without a glass of water on the bedside table for sips in the night.
I can well believe that.
Oi!...leave Americans out of it!
;)
I'm sure our water comes from the Tamar...right?
My tap water is far superior to bottled water. I could probably count on one hand how many times (in the UK) I've walked about with bottled water.

I rarely drink water when I'm out and about. Mainly at home. If I go to the pub I drink Coke as my choice of soft drink, water if I go into the office as there's never any milk! A glass of wine if I go out for dinner, which is rare, so I mainly drink water.

Like I said to Barsel earlier, your body gets used to a certain amount of fluids and then starts wanting it. I can't remember ever craving any other drink.
So is mine Ummm. I refuse to fall for the hype regarding bottled water. That hype is responsible for most of the plastic pollution.
Our tap water is often disgusting...with a strong whiff of chlorine. I always add squash.
I used to be fine with tap water, ummmm, but not once I moved to London, it just tastes unpleasant. It might just be because it was unfamiliar, but I've never liked it.
Four worms were placed in four separate test tubes: 1st in beer 2nd in wine 3rd in whisky 4th in soft water

The next day, the teacher, Arksided, shows the results - The 1st worm in beer, dead. The 2nd in wine, dead. The 3rd in whisky, dead. The 4th in soft water, alive and healthy.

Arksided asks the class:
- What do we learn from this experience?

And a child responds:
-Whoever drinks beer, wine and whisky
does not have worms.
^ I remember the taste of chlorine in SW water. Drinking it won't kill you though. Would you rather drink out of plastic bottles and pollute the environment or just put up with the taste? I know which I would rather do.
When did this obsession with carrying and drinking liquid frequently start?
It wasn't there when I was growing up and I don't remember thousands dying of thirst.
NJ //.... Personally I never drink water. //
I remember an officer once saying that, and when he was then asked, "well how do you clean your teeth?" he answered, "with a light Sauternes" .
^ exactly
