Hi Ed I have posted a few - serious - questions and have received some excellent answers so don't get me wrong I think Answerbank is brilliant - but occasionally we do get wallies putting in their two peneth

What I think would be a good addition is an experts panel - you could put out a questionnaire of some kind to vet people and help you decide that they are indeed an expert in a certain field and make up a panel - they are then awarded a symbol or something next to their avatars or profile name

Then when q's are asked they can be answered by anyone in the normal way - but when an expert answers they will be identified as an expert - we would then know that what they are saying is indeed an experts opinion

-You must have a multitude of professional people giving their advice here everyday - it's just we don't know it xx

Hope this makes sense

Have no claims to be an expert in anything. Anyone is free to accept or reject my posts. If you need an expert, get off your backside and the net and go visit one. Doctor, lawyer, CAB. Some you may have to pay. Do not use this site as a freebe and then complain about lack of credentials.
I like that on here anyone can answer. So many categories don't have experts - quizzes and puzzles, beauty, weather. In the area where expertise you attract the serious responses and get to know who knows their stuff. However other, less expert, people may have experience that is useful. There is already a reporting system and trivial answers can be removed. I have expertise in fields that I don't reveal unless I spot a question that I can contribute to knowledgeably. If there was a check on my credentials I would not stay on here.
We might not be experts in some topics, but we might have experience in certan situations which we like to share.

Do you know I'm really sorry I made this suggestion - but I suppose the debate that has come out of it has been good.......
perfectly good suggestion. I don't think it would work, but no reason to be sorry for making it!
For the fashion sub topic, could we have a warning of "cravat emptor"......

<minces off. Pursued by flounce?>
Lyndylou. No need to regret this suggestion. It made me realise that the diversity and anonymity are what I most enjoy here.
cravats come from Croatia - Hrvatska. So 'Tie-land'.

But I'm not an expert.
So was Diocletian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diocletian

But he was no expert either.
That would be caveat emperor then...
he must have been pretty good - the only Roman emperor to retire. He probably negotiated a decent payoff.
You can trust me, I'm a Doctor.
We have a half implemented feature in the back end called "expert" - we could link it to a category and the number of best answers a user has gained in that category? So an updated profile might read:
