look at the big picture, if they are offering a scrappage scheme then they are stopping manufacture, if they are stopping manufacture then it's because it's financially expedient, ie they know about the plans of major governments. Hence diesel cars will very quickly become worthless.

Yet again you are telling us something that your link does not support.
It is a scrappage scheme ONLY for diesel cars registered BEFORE 2010 NOT modern ones! These do not comply with Euro 6 or 7 emission rules and would be banned anyway.
Engines that comply with Euro 6 /7 are not going to be banned as they are already under the emission rules. It is not new either, other manufacturers have been doing it for over a year already.
The gas coming out of a Euro7 engine is cleaner than the air that goes into it. Particulates are taken care of by an auto cleaning filter and NOX is eliminated by AdBlue technology.
You really have a bee in your bonnet over this subject , you keep bringing it up despite being told repeatedly that you are wrong.

I've only had mine 3 months and it's still got less than 6k miles OTC, despite all the to-ing and fro-ing I do.

Ironically it's the first diesel I have ever owned.

Diesel engines ARE NOT ending manufacture they just have to comply with the latest Euro standard which currently is Euro7. Euro8 is in the pipeline and all manufactures have already developed engines both petrol and diesel that comply with it. There is still no alternative to diesel for large commercial vehicles.
More relevant is that Volvo will make only hybrid electric vehicles from 2020 the other manufactures will follow.

Great thing the diesel engine. Smooth, powerful, economic, sturdy and reliable.
Best get rid of it then, now that it's developed to a point where it's as clean running if not moreso than the petrol equivalent.
Bring me something electric, I want to die of exposure in the middle of nowhere cos there's no facility around to recharge.

TTT, it is petrol and diesel only cars and vans that are on the way out.
As I just said Volvo will not make then from 2020, other manufactures will follow. Non Hybrid cars and vans look set to be banned from city centers soon anyway. But again I have to repeat that there is NO alternative to diesel for large commercial vehicles. A petrol bus or 38 tonne truck is never going to happen !

as I said above diesel is great for trucks, boats etc, not cars. I have 2 cars and 3 motorbikes all petrol.

Our Vauxhall Zafira 7 seat 1.5 litre ecodiesel does over 45 mpg around town and up to 85mpg on a long run. It is so quiet you can't hear the engine from inside the car. I would never go back to a petrol car !

Eddie, I have a rule about diesel, very simple, I'll buy one when I cannot tell it's a diesel by standing next to it when it starts. They all sound like a morris minor with the tappits gone. I've driven a few diesels when helping deliver them for a mate but I've always found them gutless and noisy. did you read the article on Euro 6 above eddie?

Having said that if all the tradesmen have to buy a new van costs will be passed on to the punters big time. Bet that will go down well with the population of the cities concerned!
