we all know the government have reduced taxes to try and get us spending and to compensate for this they will eventuall reinstate the 17.5% rate and maybe even increase it to cover the losses

instead of making the already stretched taxpayers foot the bill Labour or whoever is in charge or the country in 6months should have a total blitz on immigration, benefits and subsidised public services to try and reduce the countries tax bill and in turn make the country a better place to live

What do you mean by total blitz? Are you suggesting that anyone in reciept of benefits should just have them stopped without notice? I think that would lead to even more problems that would require a much larger amount of tax payers money to put right!
Question Author
if you need and deserve benefits then you should get them, i'm talking about the people who are getting jobseekers allowance and not looking for a job, people who are "on the sick" and working on the side, people who live in council house and pay the nominal rent, have a good job, go on holiday 2 times a year have a flash car sitting outside, sky T.V etc and people who need the housing are sitting on a waiting list because of these people miss using the system
I don't think you know what you are talking about danchip.
You cannot get job seekers allowance unless you prove you are looking for a job.!!
Question Author
i have a friend who has claimed jobseekers allowance for 11 years, he has experince in IT and also in working in a warehouse

in 11 years he has had 8 job interviews all of which he has made sure he wasn't succesful

you cant say he has been looking,

anyone can get a job in a supermarket or shop, he lives 8 miles from the largest (or 2nd) shopping centre in europe, 10 miles from the largest industrial/business park in europe you cant tell me none of these businesses have positions available
Question Author
and there are millions of people like him in this country
You are just talking about your friend. You cannot generalise and lump all people on JSA as the same.
Nor people that live in council houses. It's very difficult for young ones to get on the property ladder these days, and this is the only housing available to them.
You have no argument here with this, you are just wasting our time.

Proving you are looking for work only goes as far as accepting an interview once every 2 weeks as far as the jobcentre is concerned. And you can damn make sure you don't get the job if you don't want to. JSA is a criminaly easy benefit to get and stay on for as long as you need too. I hate dole bums

I absolutely agree with you on the immigration issue. They need to close the gates completely until they figure out who and where all the people they have already let in are!!! The benefits situation, however is tricky. Undoubtedly there are a large number of lazy scroungers who think the world owes them a living but there are also many people who genuinely need them. These will be the ones who suffer, while the illegal immigrants and the dole dossers live a life of ease.
Question Author
im not generalising here, i know people need council houses but the ones i am talking about are the ones who could afford to have a mortgage but choose to sponge off the system and use the money to have a brand new car and go on holiday etc

As i have already said if you need and deserve benefits then you should get them, i used my friend as an example but i know from being in the position of being involved in the interview process and using the jobcentre to try and fill roles within the company i work for there a re a lot of people who will just come along to an interview to tick the box to say they have tried and then get back to sitting around waiting for their dole money to come through

That was my worry CJ242, recently my daughter's boyfriend was laid off at work (he's a plasterer),as he and my daughter have a baby to provide for he was forced to claim JSA and was gutted about it,he has never had to claim since leaving school as he has always been employed. Luckily he managed to get another job after a few weeks but so many others can't.
you are quite right danchip especially about the benefit cheats, I personally know lots of them, I don't know about jobseekers allowance, but I know people who are receiving unemployment benefits and working for cash in hand, also a couple are running a business spare time,
also I know of people who are getting dissabillity living allowance, and driving taxi's so yes you are quite right on all counts,
But be careful about the Immigration issue, or you will be classed as a racist, and people on here will be asking how many crosses you have burned in your neighbours garden.
Question Author
zacmaster totally agree with you about it not being a priority due to the levels of unemployment but its obviously been a huge oversight by the labour party as this period should of been the time to overhaul the system
Why do people always mention DLA and taxi drivers? Surely the best job a disabled driver could do would be driving a taxi as they don't have to walk anywhere. Also as DLA is not means tested you are allowed to work full time and still get it,in fact you could be a millionaire and still be entitled to claim it if you so wished.
Question Author
im not a racist far from it in fact, i should of been more specific about the immigration issue, i was meaning the immigrants who have come here to sponge of the system and those who have come and do not wish to contribute anything to the country
well considering the amount of unemployed there will be by next year jobs are going to be very thin on the ground.
you have to do some lifting (luggage, shopping, pushchairs) and help wheelchair passengers into the vehicle, a lot of drivers do get attacked so a disabled taxi driver would be vulnerable, it would depend on the class of disability as to whether being a taxi driver would be a good idea.
Logic, you have hit on a subject that really angers me. If you say you have a problem with immigration you are suddenly a racist! Anybody who wants to work in this country and contribute should be welcome. Surely you cannot condone the ones who come in, don't like the initial accomodation they are given and bleat on about human rights. The government have admitted they have no idea where a large number of unprocessed immigrants are! Is it racist to be concerned about this?
I was commenting more on the fact that you are still allowed to work when in reciept of DLA cazzz, not necessarily as a taxi driver, although I know lots of taxi drivers who never get out of the car when picking up passengers to help with shopping etc....those are the ones I don't tip!!!
