That is low mileage. Add that to cost of Insurance, Servicing etc and it would be cheaper to go by taxi.

Probably less that the bus fair.
there is no such thing as road tax. Vehicle excise duty is not related to milage, I'm struggling to decipher your meaning here.
TTT, he means that he has divided his mileage by the cost of his annual road tax and it works out that it costs him 9p for every mile he drives.

2500 miles per year at £225 tax or duty it is a compulsory fee for using a vehicle on public roads?
That is low mileage. Add that to cost of Insurance, Servicing etc and it would be cheaper to go by taxi.
Get a car that is zero rated road tax and is cheap to run.
Since my car is zero-rated for VED.....that's 0p per mile....even fairer.
hc....two minds etc...
There isn't a lot that you can do about it if you think that it isn't fair.
Yes hc, what is road tax? VED is the cost of having the right to use your vehicle on public roads. Subsequent usage thereof is not compulsory. So "fair" or not does not come into it. It's like saying I pay £25k a year in NI and I also pay for prescriptions and I've been to hospital twice in 12 years, fair? I would not ask the question normally because I know the 2 things are not related.

do away with the tax and add tax to the fuel , this would mean the ones who use the roads most would pay more, if your car was fuel efficient you would pay for miles travelled and if it was a gas guzzler you would pay more
they already do that woolley.
woolleysheep, what about all those zero rated vehicles? The fuel efficient, the disabled class, emergency service vehicles, classic cars etc
£225 a year; that's a car that drinks petrol (or diesel) at less than 28MPG or is old.

auto 36mpg
arf.
£300 a year for 4500 miles driving. But then I knew that when I bought the car.
Question Author
sorry ttt, you no longer pay for using your car on the road but for owning it,cars must be taxed if in the drive or on the road
did i say any different? I said...
"VED is the cost of having the right to use your vehicle on public roads. Subsequent usage thereof is not compulsory."
woolleysheep, if you are not using your car at all and it is on private land it does not need to be taxed. It can be SORN'd at no cost.
