Hi just trying to figure out what the causes of oil loss over a litre missing after 3 weeks of topping up. No leaking the engine hasn't a wet patch anywhere at all and no smoking from exhaust. It like it just vanishing but the only thought I have is maybe the ccv oil seperator valve

Well the only way to find out if it's the CCV is to swap it.
(think of single cream versus double cream as an analogy!)
Question Author
haha i like the analogy. the only questioning i have on oil type iv always used 5w30 in my previous pretty much same car drove like crazy distances were in thousands and not any significant loss there was too much oil in the intake manifold
Question Author
ye i think i might just swap ccv over.

also oil systems are enclosed like coolant. there shouldn't be anything disappearing beyond normal
Have you taken the mass airflow unit of and had a look if there is oil lying inside it ?.
Does the car hesitate on pull at all ?.
every beastie is different once the 100 k is exceeded.....there's far too much give-away in the lubs business. If it was me, I'd run a 30 or 40 mono grade in summer and a 15 or 20 in winter.... so a 15W30 is fine, esp. in Ireland. The pour point of 15W30 is -25 degreesC usually - that's when the oil gels out, the upper figure is the viscosity and its breakdown and vaporisation. The temperature of 40 equates coincidentally to 40 degrees C.....
Put a dose of STP oil treatment or Wynn's super charge oil treatment in and the oil consumption will drop right off.

I discovered this when researching the high oil consumption of my 1.6 Astra.
The Vauxhall Owners website reported that the 16v version was notorious for using oil when over 100,000, and recommended Wynn's.

I tried it, and it was a miraculous cure - until the oil was next changed so it had to be retreated then.

Well sometimes there is a lack of pull when taking off oand higher speeds are not accelerating as it could but apart from that it runs nicely
Question Author
But for high performance engines it should be 5w30 or 10w40 for lower performance
Have you had it compression tested? Juggling about with grades of oil won't make any marked difference if the engine worn. You say there is no smoking from the exhaust, there might not be at idle, but someone following you might think differently.
"one thing i did notice was excess oil in intake manifold like the texture of dirt which also made me think oil separator valve"

Is the vehicle a turbo. Could possible be a seal in the turbo allowing oil into the intake.
Question Author
Unfortunately no turbo. I would have revved to 6k rpm also I use all my mirrors often enough when driving so I know what around in advance for my next move on the road so I notice when dust is lifted behind the car and there been no smoke. But a faulty ccv causes excess oil loss too. with the oil seperator you have a pipe going into the crank and one going into just over the sump and another going into the manifold. Where it separate oil from air through I believe a directional valve. No compression test done however that would be mainly for gaskets or worn piston rings. Which would show in oil in coolant or burning with smoke
Hi Top, thought you had emigrated lol, when you /if you get the car on ramps ( Safety in mind, Chock the back wheel up & put in 1st gear ) look in the area of the manifold on the Off / side of the Engine, they tend to lesk from that area, you can not see the loss from the top, also check your gearbox oil, It may be the case, I say, It may be the case that the Engine is not breather & pressurising causing the oil to by-pass the Gearbox seal & going into the box, Stick your finger into the rear exhaust box, is your finger sooty or oil?
You would not see the smoke Tops, to be sure, put a piece of wood on the accelerator to the Drivers seat at a slight rev, then check the rear.
Question Author
Haha. hi haha ye it been a while since I been on. Well my brother dropped the car back up very late last night he brought it into his garage also a dealer garage and said he couldn't find any leaks. Just a bit of soot no oil in the back. I'm not sure what test they did at garage
Well, if you're not leaking it, you must be burning it.
Question Author
Well I was more looking at opinion on what is causing the loss not how the loss is occurring ie what I think ccv valve
Question Author
Yep it turned out to be the ccv valve.
