I'm just messing about with this -

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp

If you put in for arguement sake - start date 1992 / end date jan 2014

Choose - Ford Focus .

1.Is the ' launch date ' , the date of the recall ?

2.How do you find out when the 'build start date' and 'build end date' was for your vehicle

3. If you have a Focus Zetec for example , - where it's got focus under the model - is it all the Focuses - i.e. Zetec , Titanium , etc ?

Launch date must surely be the date that your particular model was first on the market.

I would have said it is all Focuses. After all, the Zetec, Titanium etc refers to cosmetic features such as alloy wheels, shiny bits of trim, front fog lights etc.

The meaty bits will be the same for all these.

No doubt if the recall did apply to a particular spec, it would be specified in the table of results.
No, looking at the tables, I must be wrong.

Launch date must be the date of the recall.

Most times you won't need to know build start and end date of your model.
The table will give a start and end build date, and looking at when your car was first registered, it should be clear whether your car was affected.
>>>Launch date must be the date of the recall

I disagree. It always seems to be a few months after manufacture of a particular model began, which is consistent with it being the date the model is officially launched on the UK market.

This search facility offers more information about each recall (including which models were affected):

Yes, that was my initial thought Chris, but if you look at the tables it doesn't work.

EG I followed Bazile's suggestion of a Ford Focus.

The first one I looked at had a build start date, a build end date and a launch date AFTER the build end date.
Can't see the confusion as to me, launch date is the date of the recall(although launch date is not the best term to use)
In general it would be all models as trim levels rarely affect recalls-it is more about a particular production batch
