About 3 weeks ago I helped a total stranger out of a jam. Today I received a beautiful bunch of flowers with the message "Thanks to your kindness I arrived on time and got the job". The card was not signed. Having made my day I got to thinking. I told him nothing about myself, not even my name. The only thing I can think of is, he took my car number plate and traced me through that. Does that make him something to do with the police or can anyone do that?

whatever way
it is nice to be thanked ( and so rarely too !)
I don't know, but sounds like a well-deserved thank you!
He says 'he got the job' what sort of job was it? might give a clue.
Must have really lifted your spirits. Bless you for caring when you have so much going on yourself.x
Nice gesture if a bit creepy.

No idea what job, he just said he had an urgent appointment.
The flowers must have cost a fortune, they are gorgeous.
Years ago unknown to me I lost 2 cheque books from a coat pocket. A lady handed them in to her local branch, leaving her name and address. I sent her flowers as a thank you and she wrote back thanking me. I had to write this has got to stop!
As far as I am aware, only police officers can trace people through their number plates. Perhaps that was the job that he got?
he obviously appreciated what you did to help and wanted you to know how much it meant to him, nice gesture.

That's what I thought bookbinder. I feel it must have been a senior position as he was 40 ish and very well dressed.
Jeza, well done that person, so many of us here would love to do the same, love to you and mic
Well done you for helping him, it was nice that he sent you flowers to say thank you. How he traced you I don't know, it could have been through the police.
about year ago a young man went into the back of my car, nothing serious but he was concerned about me being a grand old dame, took pictures of the damage on my phone for me, followed me [ by consent] home to make sure I was okay and rang the next day to make sure I was okay. I was so impressed with this young man that I wrote to his parents congratulating them on upbringing such a well mannered, courteous young man, they replied with a thank you card which said they both sat and cried on reading my praise. I will complain like mad about bad things but will always praise those that deserve it.
All goes to show that decent people still exist!
