...in my junk file.??
I just happened to look in my junk file this morning and found an email from the above, claiming that " following an upgrade of our computer systems and review of our records we have investigated your payments and latest tax returns over the last seven years and our calculations show you have made over payments of £000.00."

It then goes on to say that due to the high volume of refunds this must be done ONLINE...and the telephone helpline is UNABLE TO ASSIST WITH THIS APPLICATION. (My caps)

Is this for real...I am quite suspicious.

Well..exactly. Of course you don't automatically think that when you see the "refund" word....
HMRC NEVER email. It's always it writing by snail mail...
HMRC NEVER e-mail people. Its a scam.
I had one yesterday, I never bothered to open it as i know that they don't e-mail, and they don't have my e-mail address anyway. X

Its been deleted. Just the fact that it was in my junk file was enough to make me wary.
If they call you Dear Taxpayer or Dear Customer and don't know your name, that's another giveaway that it's a scam
I put same thing up yesterday. Mine was for just under £1k.
